Very hard to remove Bobby Orr...but for a while it is appropriate.... Still a "Boston" connection:)

A rare voice. He could just sing. His voice had almost a violin like tone.

The Fall of '76 into the Winter and Spring of '77 was a period where one could not escape the influence of Boston on High School kids everywhere. I was a Freshman hanging out with the Senior musicians. One of the bands they worshipped was Boston. I still vividly remember having a period off from classes one day at Bellarmine. I went over to a place where the guys were taking a very serious stab at "Peace of Mind" and doing a fantastic job at the end guitar parts. My friends Paul & Chris Comfort were a part of that band. When I think of the passing of Brad Delp, I feel as if I'm further apart from those two guys I admired very much and have not heard from since they graduated. Brad, you will be missed. His name may not have been a commonly known name, but he can know that his contributions to the music world helped to get people together to become friends and to interact in a positive way.

What a shame. No one had a voice quite like Brad Delp. Hopefully, some news about the circumstances will be forthcoming.

I decided to pull Boston off the shelf and give it another listen tonight. A great album then and now.

Wow! And the hits just keep on coming. I tell ya, this seems to happen in droves: one passes, and then a few more do it in the following days or weeks.

This is sad, and as has been said here before 55 is not old.

    Very sad news.

I have very fond memories of seeing Boston headlining the 1987 (if I remember correctly) Texxas Jam in Dallas. It was the bands first concert in a long time, and they put on a good show. I remember seeing someone wearing a shirt that said "From Boston to see Boston". They had recently released "Third Stage" and played it in its entirety.

I got off work that Friday night at 11pm, and left Hot Springs, Arkansas for the five hour drive to Dallas around 4am. Spent the entire day in Cotton Bowl Stadium in the blazing sun. It seems like we saw Fahrenheit, Poison, Tesla, Whitesnake, Aerosmith (who played music from their forthcoming "Permanent Vacation" album), and Boston. We left Dallas around midnight and drove back home. I took a shower, fell asleep for about three hours and had to go back to work that afternoon. I remember that I got sunburned through my shirt, and the top of my head burned through my hair. It's a good thing I was young at the time. That trip would kill me today. I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

    RIP Brad

Thanks for the music and the memories.

I've never participated in those "Artists whose deaths affected you" until now. Honest to God, my heart just sunk. I could seriously cry right now. :(

I was hoping this wasn't true. When the thread started I search Google News and then bostglobe.com and neither had the story.

"A Man I'll Never Be" will carry a new emotional charge for me.

    This is very sad news.

I met Brad Delp about 20 years ago in, of all places, a church in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. He was there to record a string quartet recital that I was participating in as accompanist (piano) on a couple of solo pieces. Apparently the cellist was an old friend of his. During the warmup before the recital, there was this guy running around setting up mikes for recording. I went over to say hi, partly to be friendly but mostly because I was interested in the electronic gear he was using (a mixer, an analog to digital processor and a Panasonic VHS VCR). When I walked over I didn't realize who it was and never expected to hear the words "Hi, I'm Brad Delp" while shaking hands! Needless to say I was shocked, and he smiled as my jaw just about hit the floor! I didn't have much chance to talk to him other than that but he seemed like a really nice guy.

Death is always sudden and unexpected. Shame about Brad - I gather from the initial press reports the cause of death is unknown. Died alone at home. I hope it was in his sleep. That's how I hope I go - dreaming away and then the power shuts off. I always get nervous when folks around my age check out all of a sudden. It reminds us of the fragile thread/gift of life we cling to every day.

The mortality rate among musicians is horrible.

I grew out of their music after 1977, but damn, this is shocking.

I don't know really what to say here. :(

Brad and Boston meant an awful lot to me when I was growing up. The mixture of the energy, song craft and technical accomplishment made for one of the finest rock bands I've ever heard.

    RIP Brad.
