Record Store Day Ethics (Offshoot from RSD 2024 Thread)

I picked up all of the titles I wanted from my friends record shop yesterday:

The Doors - Stockholm

Charles Mingus - reincarnations

Dubbing at King Tubby’s vols 1 & 2

Lee Perry - Skanking with the Upsetter

300% Dynamite

The Rolling Stones debut

so glad I won’t have to get up super early next Friday.

 

What store? So I can report them. LOL - only joking. I wish my store would let me buy the items I want early.

Why would they do that?

It literally says it’s his friend’s record shop in the first line.

Stores can get booted from participating in RSD for selling things before RSD.

I’ve even been told with RSD releases I’m involved with to not show any images of the record online until release day.

It also comes across badly to boast of getting things before RSD.

 

Maybe ‘cos I’m a good customer.

 

I promised I wouldn’t post any pics online…& anyway, I’ve never been able to post pics on this site.

Possibly because if what you’ve said is true, your friend is putting his business at risk and you are by choosing to brag about it with your “look at me, I’m sorted already”. To be honest it stinks.

That shouldn’t matter as rules are supposed to be rules. It would be easy enough for RSD to do an investigation of the UK stores if someone filed a complaint. Sometimes it’s best not to broadcast these things publicly.

Everyone, this person is an obvious troll who in no way has bought these RSD albums beforehand. He doesn't allow people to see his profile and conveniently can't figure out how to post pics in order to show off his showoff-y-ness, classic troll behavior.

Leave him be, he'll disappear soon enough.

True, if this genuinely happened there's no way his friend wouldn't stress him not to tell anyone at all as it risks his reputation and could get him into trouble. To then go home and post it on a public music forum is not good at all.

An Observation: He’s no “friend”.

 

He posted in last years RSD thread what city his “friends” Shop was in!

 

I get books before publication date, because that's my line of work. What's the difference here? Am I missing something.
