I hope you don't expect to play the record too many times by playing it on that second one, with the record being made of vinyl and not shellac  It'll most likely be cut microgroove anyway. are there any widegroove lathes even still in existence? Anyone with a 45 rpm turntable can needledrop their copy and change shift the pitch, although it'll most likely sound dreadful through said process.

That Beatles "Carnival of Light (edit)" 45, limited to 200 pieces worldwide, seems interesting, though I don't like the suggested list of $9.95.

 I'll bet if they released that as a 78 there would be a flood of interest in turntables that could play it.

If they released it as a freakin 1219834210354201345 there'd be interest in a turntable that can play it and a 12 pound cartridge that could track it as well

I imagine a 78, modern cut on good vinyl, should sound pretty awesome.

I've always thought so, won't need to imagine for much longer :righton: like I may have already said, i wish all vinyl reissues could be done at 78 rpm. Even if they had to be made at a premium price and in limited quantities. Not as many people have the capability to play them back so it could be worth it if they do them in runs of 500 rather than 5000

No, I was just kidding about using the second 78 rpm player. I rarely play real 78's on it, but it is just such a nice looking piece, I hate to get rid of it, (plus it still works).

Thanks for the link. I hope Tower in Dublin get some of the good stuff here.

Yeah, it sure is a beautiful piece! Modern vinyl would never hold up like shellac on those, and even shellac barely holds up on those! I always wanted to get one of the classic wind ups with the large horn and all., It'd be more of a display piece than anything that would get used, although i can see myself playing a beat up disc once or twice if the thing still worked :agree: Never actually seen one up close or anything, but I did have the opportunity to buy an old Edison cylinder player a few years ago. Forgot which model...

She is a beauty and you've just got to love that volume control (the knob just below the crank) and how it actually makes the music softer or louder (almost a sponge on a spindle)

Throw a bamboo needle on there, remove the sponge, and let Good Vibrations do its thing. I imagine it'll be quite an experience :righton:

Some nice stuff on that list. I'm looking forward to seeing what will be available for North America.

Last year I found pretty much everything I wanted although some of it was bought after RSD but for the same prices.

See, It was the opposite for me. There was nothing interesting for me in the entire list, so I spent my money on used vinyl instead. Although, I did pick up the hendrix single that came out for RSD's black friday event in November. The Metallica looked cool too. This year there are a lot of great releases. I'm looking forward to the Clapton Unplugged. This year will also be the 40th anniversary of one of the local record stores here, so the event I imagine is going to be HUGE. Good thing i got my VIP card ;) I'd love to stay all day for the live music and I'm sure for the 40'th they'll bring out someone really big.

The Beach Boy's alt takes on vinyl are must haves for me. 78 just sweetens the deal :thumbsup:

Who are Spark, do they mean Sparks? Seems odd a band would name themselves Spark when there's been a Sparks for 40 years.

I'll get the Syd Barrett LP unless it's a pile of money.

Just got this in my email, figured I'd post:

Mute announces an exclusive label release to celebrate the annual Record Store Day, on April 16, 2011.

The release titled, Vorwärts, is a compilation of exclusive tracks from Mute artists, either from the vaults, such as Can’s “Millionspiel (edit)”, previously unreleased from 1970 or tracks which have been previously unreleased commercially. Hand-numbered and set to a limited edition of 1000 in the US on orange vinyl plus CD package, Vorwärts features unreleased tracks from Liars, Junip, Josh T. Pearson, Mick Harvey, and Polly Scattergood along with the brand new track, “Be The One” from Moby. Full tracklisting below.

“In Every Direction (White Sea Remix)” by Junip is the lead track on Vorwärts. White Sea is M83 singer Morgan Kibby’s new project. Also featured are two new Mute artists, S.C.U.M and Big Deal, both based in London.

Mute Vorwärts – Vinyl album + CD

I dunno, once again it's hard for me to get too enthusiastic when so much of this is vinyl-only. Otherwise, I'd be all over the Clinic and Franz Ferdinand releases.

Well I swore after last year that I would NOT stand on line or go crazy looking for this stuff. I mean it. There are only a few things that I want and if I get 'em, I get 'em. If not, my life will go on. If the record companies insist on pressing popular items in ridiculously low numbers that are nowhere near demand then so be it. Let someone else take part in the scrum in the morning. I'll stop by after the dust clears and see what's left.

Agreed - after stopping by in the afternoon and seeing all the employees at my favorite shop looking miserable I can't take part, and I'm definitely not lining up before the store opens like it was Black Friday.

That said, I'm going to be a little annoyed if I can't get my hands on that Wild Flag 7" since I couldn't get tickets to their show here.

most of these 7 inches are such a waste of time... its not as if they are free either.. you can get the original for the same price...

i'm only interested in the stuff you can't find anywhere else...

and i think i have a sour taste from last year. .they say things are limited then you find out they are not... i was embarassed last year to make a big to do about the flaming lips dark side only to learn later that there were thousands of it everywhere..i coudl have played it cool.. i ain't freaking out this year.
