Wow, I did not know that. :)

And I'm sure you checked too, but the EMI's for In Rock, Fireball, MIJ, WDWTWA, Burn, and Stormbringer are not preemphasized. Just MH.

I'm curious about Bob James and Earl Klugh - One on One 35DP-10. Is this cd using pre-emphasis? Can somebody who owns this disc confirm this?

Does the Japan 35DP Bonnie Tyler - 'Faster Than The Speed Of Night' have pre emphasis?
I was thinking of buying it but won't if it has pe.

Same mastering as the US stock disc [and still in print IIRC] so no PE and no reason to spend the extra money. I know I wish I hadn't.

    Noticed over the weekend:

    Sandra: The Long Play
    Virgin DIXCD40 / 7 86968 2
    Matrix [] 786968 2 @ 2 []; EMI Uden? pressing
PRE in subcodes but not TOC

This was a surprise as I bought the disc new from Amazon.de in 2004, making it the most recently-pressed title with pre-emphasis I've found in my collection to date. It has a "modern" Virgin barcode box and an ifpi mould code, but no ifpi mastering code as far as I can see. The title is still in print and there's never been an "official" remastering, so this version may well be the one in stores today.

The album first came out in 1985, and the levels are very '80s looking:

I found another early Japan for US Mannheim Steamroller title with PE.

    Fresh Aire II
    AGCD-359

    matrix
    AGCD-359-U5E14

    text on spine is blue
    no barcode
    copyright 1977 & 1984

The disc's TOC does not indicate PE but the subchannel does.

Thanks, Lou, I figured there had to be a II out there somewhere. That just leaves Fresh Aire 4, as I-III and V all have known PE versions.

You're welcome. IIRC, Fresh Aire 4 was released in mid-1985, as was Christmas. I have not come across any discs with pre-emphasis for either title. Perhaps Chip Davis and/or Joe Gastwirt decided to abandon the use of pre-emphasis around this time.

  11. Does anyone know where I could find EAC95pb3? It seems all the links I've seen have dried up. The latest prior-to-that copy I could find was EAC9b4 and, when I try to run that, it opens up about fifteen error dialogs (too fast for me to be able to read the message) and then crashes the program.

Since EAC is only a few MB, the web archive has preserved some old versions.

My newer non-IDE drives won't work with 95pb3. I prefer to use cdda2wav/icedax to scan for pre-emphasis.

Oops, looks like I remembered incorrectly. Lazlo's wiki shows 1986.

Here are some details on a pressing of Lionel Richie's Can't Slow Down made in U.S.A. It's a BMG club disc, apparently manufactured by Denon in August 1988.

    Matrix: 8/88 3DA4 MCD06059

This pressing has PE, but it is not shown in the TOC, only in the subchannel.

Can someone tell me if Itunes can detect PE at TOC only ?

Thanks, that would explain why REO Speedwagon - Hi Infidelity sounded so bad on my Ipod all this time.

I knew about PE, but did not realize Itunes read it incorrectly.

I added the PE flags to a cd-r and boy does it sound so much better.

My Japan for US 35DP Matrix Billy Joel - The Nylon Curtain, does not have PE at all.

Also, I was wondering, does anyone know if PE was left off some discs by accident ?

I was wondering cause cd's like Heart - S/T is extremely bright, so isn't Survivor - Vital Signs. Speaking of Survivor, Eye Of The Tiger has PE at the TOC and both discs were released around the same time.

For the fun of it, I made a cd-r of Heart and Survivor and they both sound much better with PE on them, both discs are unlistenable without it.

I don't know of any documented cases where PE flags were left off completely (missing from the Table Of Contents and the subcode). There are lots of pressings where the TOC flags are missing. I think the Red Book standard specifies the flags should be present in both areas.

So, although there is not an existing Heart cd with PE, I still wonder if it was suppose to be included.

It sounds much better with PE on it to me. Even the Survivor Vital Signs sounds much better.

These discs are way way too bright.
