Here's where it all starts for me...Clearaudio Champion, Benz Micro L2, Clearaudio/Rega RB-300 w/turbo weight & Quint wire and Basis clamp. Oh, that's a Shanling CD-S100 (Music Hall CD-25) underneath that I use to spin those little silver discs. More to come.

    Hi Dean,

How does the Marantz preamp/amp combo compare sonically w/ the McIntosh preamp/amp combo?

    Thanks,
    Jeffrey

Here's a few of my room (thanks to my new digital camera). Don't mind the mess, I have kids so the music room is also the family den/tv area.

My overall HT center (needs replacement as soon as I figure out
    which HDTV I want):

Jeff, that's an easy one to answer. In fact, fellow forum member Bill Hausmann And I did some critical listening between the two systems last week.

    In our opinions:

The Marantz system leans toward an accurate, neutral sound while the Mac system in more of a "comfy, cozy" sound, not really accurate but warm and fuzzy. Like Steve has said before, The Mac tends to bring vocals alive. Nat, Dean, and Frank sound fantastic on the Mac.

    Hi Dean,

    Thanks for the review.

If you could only have one, which one would it be?

    Take care,
    Jeffrey

    Well Jeff,
Tough one! I guess the Mac system because of the way it sounds with vocals.

Actually, if I was to mix and match components and pare it down to one system it would be:

    Marantz SA-1 Cd/SACD
    Marantz 7 Preamp
    Mcintosh 30 monoblocs
    VPI Aries 'table
    Awia Cassette
    Pioneer PDR-99 CD recorder
    Marantz 20 tuner
    Legacy Focus speakers.

It may not be pictured, but he most definitely has a top notch turntable (Meitner IIRC). He primarily posts on the AVS Forum, if you wanted to read more about his system, and why he has chosen the components he has.

This system belongs to forum member Tim Groves. My e-mail program has been crashing quite a bit and I just rescued this one to resize and post here. (Sorry for the delay, Tim!)

    Here's the record room!

    Musichall MMF9 turntable
    Rega Planet cd player
    Pioneer DV-563A dvd/sacd player
    Xindak XA3200S Tube Preamplfier
Audio Electronic supply Six Pac Tube Amps
Mcintosh MC202 power Amp (not being used presently)
VPI 16.5 record cleaning machine (10th anniversay wedding gift).

My wife bought me the matching amp stands for Christmas, and I think we'll have to eventually get a single stand for everything else. With the amp stands in the back, and the preamp in the middle, the cables just fit. I also have to paint those little wall squares that were exposed when we changed alarm systems. Somehow, I never get around to it!

Geo, what kind of wide component stand is that? It looks like it would be good in my place.

Geoman076, I love your vinyl cabinet (the one with the doors). Is it custom made or available retail? I like the ones I got from Gothic Cabinet Craft:

My wife bought me mine for Father's Day. Aren't wives who indulge us our hobbies wonderful?

These guys are in the NY/NJ area. I just grabbed a Birch unfinished LP cabinet (like JMT's) on my lunch hour at a local Gothic for $99. Quite a nice shop, I was impressed with a $199 side by side CD rack that holds 800.

    JMT - thanks for sharing!

I purchased it at a local furniture store, it's made by Hooker Furniture. It was listed in the catalog as a Barrister Bookcase. I can't find it on line, so I can't post a link.

Bart, Welcome to the forum, neat looking horns, what do you drive them with? Looks like you have tubes here, there and everywhere. Please fill out your profile. If my wife would ever decide what digital camera she wants I could post some pics of my system (she is the photographer in our family).
