Very cool, ultron9! What cartridge are you running in the Technics?

I once had an Adcom 565 - a terrific preamp!

Those TT Weights clamps really dress up the Technics nicely. :righton:

Thanks Guys, at the time I took the pics I mounted my Ortofon TM14 Cartridge with an Stylus 20 . I'm saving up for a KAB Ortofon Pro 30 package. I used to have a Shure type V MR and older Grado setup as well, Both since sold off.

I kinda miss that one too, i had restored it prior to selling it, replacing a couple nobs and having all contacts cleaned. I'm using an Acurus LS 11/P 10 combo now!

You can read the original Stereophile review from 1990 here

    http://www.stereophile.com/content/adcom-gfp-565-preamplifier

"The GFP-565 is the best under-$1000 preamp I've had the pleasure of hearing. "

    and

"The SP-11 II's phono preamp was an entirely different matter. The GFP-565 easily outperformed the Audio Research phono section. " (The reviewer much preferred the SP-11 line stage to the Adcom)

No question, the Adcom's built in pre-amp was hard to beat at the price, quite full bodied and not bright at all!

No problem, hoping to be able to get the new cartridge setup within a few months, I was considering the Audio Technica 440ML as well but decided on the new Ortofon.

The fit and finish of the Clamp is superb for the money and gives some authority with a wide variety of LPs I've played while using it, the pic shows Classic records edition of "Physical Graffiti" sounds wonderful!

A couple questions, if you don't mind:

    1) What is the brand/model of the clamp?
    2) What is the brand of the red plinth cover?
    3) Does the cover have notches in back to accommodate the factory hinges/dustcover?

    Thanks!

yeah, they were flogging off a few.

  16. My apologies if this seems like a silly question but what is the purpose and/or advantage of having two tone arms on a turntable?

One arm/cartridge for mono records makes sense.

Don't see a lot of desktop systems on this thread, so here's mine:

    Speakers are ERA Design 4s.

Optical out to a Benchmark DAC.

Benchmark is balanced out to a Ray Samuels SR71b head amp and single ended to a McIntosh MAC4300V (connected to a rarely used Denon 2900 and Nakamichi RX303).

Headphones are Audeze LCD2 Rev 1 with balanced cables.

The two arms certainly have different characteristics: the SME V is forensic in the way it allows a cart to retrieve detail, the Trio arm is more "cerebral": it seems to go with the flow of the music more. I've also put a mono cart on the Trio for older 60s LPs. Its just about flexibility: it's quite surprising how different an LP can sound between the two arrms/same cart.

And no, I dont use them at the same time...

I had the triple 5 and loved the phono stage in that. I wonder did Adcom ever make any dedicated phono pre?

@PrestigeWW - that is a really nice system! I am fond of small systems like this as they tend to squeeze out the maximum from the latest technology. I bet your system sounds fantastic! It must be hard to choose between headphone and speaker listening.....
