I cannot comment on the Queensryche disc as I do not own it and haven't even taken shipment of this Pioneer unit either, but I can tell you that the Natalie Merchant disc is in fact mis-labeled. There is only a 96/24 MLP multichannel mix on there, no stereo. I can't tell you whether they have corrected the label on current versions of the disc, but I do not believe that they have added a MLP stereo mix to it.

Guys,,,just got rid of some folks I invited over and played the DVD-A of "Hotel California" on my new Pioneer 563A.

    The results?

    Stunning!!!

Even people who are not even close to audiophile heard the difference!!! They all said. "Wow...does that disk sound great"!!! Where can I buy that?

Everyone on SH should pony up the 169$ and get this player!!!

Even the poor bastards who payed 1,000$ 6 months ago for a lessor SACD only player. (ya should have waited!!) This player is worth every penny and more. Kicks the 45A's ASS!!

Cant believe the level of performance ya get from this player!!!!

Mikey, do you have Steve's version to do a shoot-out when it breaks in?

    sacd newbie

After reading many posts here at SH Forums I finally took the plunge and purchased a Pioneer DV-563A. I'm hoping someone can answer a couple of questions for me.

I don't have 5.1 capability. My receiver is a Yamaha RX v850 (pro-logic). Can I see (hear) the advantages of the SACD format? I realize the sound will only be as good as my speakers...

The only wiring I've set up is as configured on page 17 step two of the manual (audio/video in/out). That's it?

Also, regarding SACD playback, if I understand it properly, page 65 says to set hybrid CDs to "CD Area." This will read the SACD layer of hybrid discs? ie. the Stones' catalogue.

Any configuration help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks all.

It sounds like the Eagles were in my living room.

    Re: sacd newbie

I don't have this player and haven't seen the manual, but if the connections you made include the stereo analog outs then you will be able to listen to the stereo SACD layer. For hybrid discs, however, you need to select something along the lines of "2-CH SACD". You do NOT want to set it for "cd layer" or your player will not access the SACD layer on hybrid discs.

The point for me Mikey, is that it would be interesting for me to know if the DVD-A stands up to Steve's work as I haven't heard a definite on this yet.

I brought one home today. Picked up the DVD-A of Neil Young's "Harvest"

Can't wait to play the Stones, Floyd, and Steve's JL Hooker & Zombies SACD's.

    I can play them all.

    Woo Hoo!

    Hi guys,

I've been reading the posts and obviously there's a lot of enthusiasm over this player.

Does anyone have a Sony XA777ES that they can compare with the Pioneer?

Usually the difference between Hirez and CD is more subtle than the
Wow feedback I've been hearing about the Pioneer.

I'm almost tempted to run over to Best Buys and pick up one myself.

    Best regards,

    Gary;)

Gary, for the price, you simply cant NOT have one!!! If all this guy did was Hi Quality VIDEO (Progressive Scan) it be worth the 161$ just for that!!

    Hi Mikey,

It sure is a great price!

How does the 563A handle bass management? DOes it convert SACD/DSD to PCM or does the player put out SACD/DSD to analog in native mode?

    My interest is definitely peaked.:agree:

Gary, the 56s-A uses Phillips brand new decoding chip that Phillips puts in its high priced players!! While I believe it DOES convert DSD to PCM, it hardly matters. The sound is amazing. This player is a good example of that issue simply not mattering.

    Mikey,

There is a storm headed our way and I'm closing down the office shortly
so everyone can get home early. I just called Best Buy's and they are
holding one for me. I'm going to run the pioneer through the paces over the next 30 days. I be able to compare it to my XA777 SACD player.
If the Pioneer sounds great then my Sony is headed for EBAY. :agree:

    Thanks for the tip!

    Best regards,

    Gary:)

Mine is hooked up as 2 channel only (see my profile).

Good thing it defaults to the SACD layer as I don't have it near my TV.

I'm home today and tomorrow, I'll give it a chance to break in.

It's you guys who help me spend my cash:D

I've been waiting for a player that does it all.

    I'm glad I waited!

Well, I have the DV-45a (can't compare it to the 563) and just got a Marantz SA-8260 dedicated CD/SACD player. Assuming that the 563 is close in sound relatively speaking to the 45a, I can say SACD on the Marantz is better. No question.

    Hi All,

I visited my local Best Buy this evening and brought home a brand new Pioneer 563a.

After a quick dinner, I was able to hook all the wires up and turned on the progressive scan DVD to check out the picture quality.

For those who are in need of a DVD Video player the Pioneer player does a nice job.

    On to the Audio...........

SACD and DVD-A are a bonus.

It will take at least three to four weeks for a proper break-in period
to give a fair opinion. But for anyone that is just entering the world of Hirez, this universal Audio player represents a great place to begin enjoying SACD and DVD-A.

SACD and DVD-A so far sounds much better than the first three CD players I owned. The pioneer didn't put a hole in my wallet either.

Quite frankly the Progressive Scan DVD player alone makes this
    a great purchase.

    All the best,

    Gary:)

A question for anyone who has this unit.

I'm playing the N. Young's "Harvest" DVD-A and the display says dmix. Am I correct that the DVD-A is defaulting to the group (1) with the multi-channel mix?

Since I don't have the player near the TV, how can I change to a different group (the hi-res stereo mix)?

    Am I confused or what!

    Thanks for any help.

    Joe
