Sckott, I have the same edition that you have, CDP 7 46036 2, except mine is made in Holland. Do you think there´s a difference in sound quality? I would love to know that I have a great Cd of The Wall.

I don't know if this helps but the Holland Harvest of DSOTM is close to the other Harvest versions I have.

  3. It would really help if some of you folks could post a pic of a .wav file from the versions you have. I think we could clear up a lot of uncertainties if some fellow forum members are willing to participate. I am more than willing to post some of my "Wall" versions. I currently use "Creative" software to make my .wav files. Is there better software I should look into?

Dave, I liked the pic you posted of a .wav file a few weeks back. I don't remember which CD it was for, but I liked the display of the software you used. What software do you use? Thanks.

The one I have is exactly the same as that shown in post #16 above. I compared it with the Japan CBS/Sony 50DP 361.2. I'm afraid I have no idea how this compares with the "black-faced Harvest".

  5. That's why I say if we can get some .wav files posted, then I could post one of my Black Faced Harvest Japan for UK, and we could at least see if the mastering is bit identical or not, and take it from there.

Ok, CDP 7 46036 2, Made In Holland. Exactly as the scan posted before, with the exception of Made in Holland instead of Made in Uk.

    Comfortably Numb, 30 sec, WAV

  7. Actually, maybe I better clarify myself, I meant the .wav FORM, not the .wav music file. Sorry about that, my bad. But the .wav music files are nice too.

I'm sorry, Scott, but I don't have the necessary software to extract wave forms. Maybe someone else can help out here....

Oh I see...well I don´t really know how to do that.

  10. There's a free software program called "DBpowerAMP" music converter. It will convert a CD file to .WAV or .MP3, or .WAV to .MP3, or .MP3 to .WAV. A handy little program, especially for free. Once you have the .WAV form of each song created, then you just take it into a .WAV editor, which most decent sound cards come with. I think there's one in EAC (Exact Audio Copy), but I have been using the .WAV editing software that came with my Creative sound card. But like I said, if someone uses another .WAV editor program that they think is better, please share it.

Once you have the .WAV form displayed in the .WAV editor, just do a Ctrl>PrtScn in Windows and then paste it into a photo editing program. It really is a VERY easy thing to do, escpecially once you've done it two or three times.

Here's the link to the DBpowerAMP program...

Question: Is it Mac-compatible? I only use Apple Macs, I'm afraid.

  12. I just got done giving the DBpowerAMP web site a good look over, and unfortunately it looks like it is a Windows only program. Sorry. :(

I've read all of the posts on this and I'm totally confused. I've had this CD for quite a while, probably bought it here in California the first time I saw it in the local Wherehouse Music store. Is this the "blackface Harvest"? I was going to ask where does EMI come in to the picture, but I just noticed for the first time that there is a teeny tiny E.M.I. Records in the lower right corner of Page 10 in the booklet. Is this a "made for US in Japan" issue rather than an original pressing from Japan, and that's why there's no 34DP-type catalog number on it? Ooops, forgot that there is a "7B1" following the CDP catalog number on the inner ring of the disc. Anyway, help me understand this whole mess ....

Since no one has stepped up to the plate, here's a scan of my disc #2 and a screenshot of the waveform of "Comfortably Numb". This came in a double disc jewelcase that just says Harvest and the "CDS 7 46036 8" catalog number on it. I'd really like to know how many masterings of this there are and see how they compare, so c'mon and post up, guys!

Just don't ask me how my Harvest sounds compared to (insert other CD version here), I only have this and the MoFi on CD, I'm not a very critical listener, and my equipment is definitely mid-fi. But basically, it kicks MY butt! :righton:

That's the one. Should be LATE 80's (not early as Dave says, since The Wall took a bit to find release on CD).

Was this compressed during extraction? I compared it to the Canadian C2K 36183 (as seen here: http://www.pinkfloydcd.com/WALL/CanadaC2K36183disc1.html ), and it really didn't stand up.

I'll try to post the WAV file later today if you're interested, but here's the image, which I tried to match to the one above:

Charlie, Harvest Records is an EMI sub label. Harvest were their "underground or progressive" record label which was owned by EMI. The first Pressing were japanese (for the UK market) and if the story is the same for Dark Side of The Moon, these should be noticabley better. I have the UK harvest as shown above, but I would bet that the japanese first pressing, like yours, could be better.

The black-faced Harvest issue was the first pressing of this title in Japan. For some reason, unlike "Wish You Were Here", Harvest first issued "The Wall" in Japan. Subsequent issues were on Columbia/CBS. My black-faced Harvest copy was imported from Japan, obi and all (which I did not keep). I bought it at almost the same time that I bought several other first issues, most notably a black triangle "Abbey Road".

Scott, early 80's for sure. I bought this at a small specialty shop in downtown Hartford, CT which I think was called "Capital Records". It's long since closed. When I bought it, it was an expensive trip because while I was there, I bought a black triangle "Abbey Road" and a copy of the naked lady cover "Electric Ladyland". Back then, CDs were very expensive (for this college student). I think I paid almost $50 for "The Wall", $24.98 for "Abbey Road" and around $35 for "Electric Ladyland".

This was not the late 80's as I was no longer living in Holyoke. I moved away from Holyoke in the summer of 1985.

Alright. Here's a WAV file that I made from the Canadian C2K 36183 using EAC, which is approximately the same sample you uploaded. Let me know what you think...

    http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=67509

It'd be great if someone could make a WAV file available of the previously mentioned UK pressing, for comparison.

    Got one just like it

    Hi all! First post...

Couldn't resist, as I've been frantically hunting C2K36183's on ebay because of what I've gathered around here the last few days. Until i saw this, that is. ;)

From Your description and photos, it looks exactly like my ol' wall from way back (couldn't say for sure but guess I bought it around '90-'91). And YES, I've always loved it, but then I've never heard any other pressings, so I can't really verify the supposition that it's THE ONE. Not yet, anyway... Guess I'll at least have to give the C2K a go, right?.

Your scan only shows disc 2... How about disc one; is 'One of my turns' misspelled on Yours as well ('One of my tunes')?

Mine is "Made in the UK" and has matrix numbers:
CDP 746036 2 4:1:14 EMI SWINDON (disc one)
CDP 746037 2 4:3:19 EMI SWINDON (disc two)

Right. Here's the first 40 seconds of CN, UK Harvest as mentioned in previous post:

And yes, the indexing is completely messed up. This one begins, as You've already mentioned, with the "knock-knock, time-to-go" etc.

I'll be willing to bet that you have the same mastering as the Canadian second pressing that's a CK-XXXXX catalog number with the differences I'm seeing between our readings.
