Blue By Nature - Blue To The Bone (1995), straight ahead bluesy rock. I wish I could have seen this band live.

Another vote for "What's Going On" - Marvin Gaye.....truly an iconic album, with deeply meaningful lyrics, gifted arrangements, and arguably Gaye's best and most soulful performance. I never tire of listening to this album.

I truly envy all the What's Going On lovers everywhere
I wish I could appreciate the music the way you do (really, no irony!)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    my picks:
    "Kind Of Blue" - jazz
"Born To Run" - rock (?...)

if I have to select only one, it has to be Kind Of Blue because i think anybody can enjoy it. I've learned through the years that BTR is not "anybody"'s cup of tea and never will

Not in the least bit seminal - just one helluva good record. Not available on CD.

I gotta give this several listens.... I love the Kinks (Arthur's my faveorite) but I keep reading how great this one is. I have it but don't know it. I'll put it on my iPod and get to it.

Meanwhile, my one album choice is:

Ten Years After -- Live at the Fillmore. Greatest lengthy guitar solos in history.

The Best of Charlie Patton, on Yazoo.

The greatest bluesman who ever lived, heard in the best sound quality those old scratchy 78s will ever be.

VGPS is an incredible album, perfect for listening to on headphones while lying in bed, that's how I fell in love with it :agree:

The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

In my opinion, there is no greater album. Words cannot express the emotion poured into this offering. Mellon Collie contains the some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. You will find peace within these walls. At the same time, Mellon Collie delivers some of the most authentically angry and bombastic music I've ever heard. It's beyond description.

Seriously. Everyone should own this record.

One of the few albums that got "glued" to my turntable (except for those moments when I spun the b-side):

Just in case you can't read the type, it's Judee Sill's self-titled debut. But you should get the two-disc import of this and her second album, Heart Food, collective titled Abracadabra. It has all but one of the bonus tracks from the Rhino Handmade versions of the first two albums (It doesn't include the demo of "Jesus Was a Crossmaker" for some reason).

  21. Yessiree. I was almost going to pick a Patton comp. But I wasn't sure if that would qualify as an album.

"Grace" by Jeff Buckley. (I've turned a lot of people on to this album over the years. It never fails to impress anyone I've ever played it for)
