oh, disc 2 by all means. Side three is absolutely stunning, a perfect album side, and side four showcases four huge Lennon tracks. Come to think of it there are seven really strong Lennon tracks on all of disc 2 (although I may not love Revolution 9, I certainly respect and appreciate it artistically). McCartney is brilliant on this disc (yes, even "Honey Pie" is the best of his work in this genre) and I actually prefer the Harrison tunes on disc 2 to the ones on disc 1.

In addition to the famous Concerto in A for Clarinet, K.622 I continue to be moved by the Horn Concertos in this collection.

Sure! Just looking for each forum members one "must have" album. If more than one person nominates the same disc, that's fine. :)

Great to see a classical piece included in the list. How about swing (Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman), easy listening (Sinatra, Nat King Cole), country, blues, bluegrass, rap, R&B, and other more diverse genres?

I also like to see that folks with low post counts are contributing!

    Me.

That's why I started this thread.

Think of the wealth of musical knowledge and experience our forum members possess. I want to know what every member of this forum recommends as their one essential "must own" recording.

Most likely I'll eventually get every album recommended, and hopefully others will benefit in the same way.

(not your "average" all time classic, but for me personally,
one of the best records from the last years..)

    who knows it?

I don't think any of us can really just say there is an album that everyone should own, with no qualifiers. Someone who is only a fan of classical music or jazz probably isn't going to care much for Slayer's "Reign In Blood", no matter how essential it is to speed metal fans. And suggesting things like Led Zep IV is sorta pointless, imo. What fan of this type of music hasn't already heard this album?

I suggested Black Crowes "The Southern Harmoney & Musical Companion" for rock and roll fans, because I think anyone who likes Rolling Stones style music will likely enjoy this Black Crowes offering, but its still one that a lot of people might not have. I love it every bit as much as Exile On Main Street, and its better recorded. ;)
