    With zads of bonus tracks!

I thought the remastered and expanded Jesus of Cool flowed really well.

Sure, if he doesn't finger his creepers dialing up the dials, which, unfortunatly, they cannot do....jacking everything up

I find it odd that all of the Dave Edmunds LPs are readily available on CD (and he was on 4 different labels) and Nicks are hard to find (expensive). I lucked out, at my local shop a few years back they went through and reduced all old stock so I got Labour Of Lust, Nick The Knife, The Abominable Showman and Nick and His Cowboy Outfit all on Demon for $7.99 each.

    Seriously?

Making it louder, which seems to be a majority of what "remastering" is.

Re-EQ'ing, bringing up the mids, killing the dynamics, etc., etc., ...

Causing the waveforms to turn from hills and valleys to perpetual hilltops...are we close?

I own it. I like it, but the Demon is easier on the ears. I'm not the only one, this has been discussed before here. I like the remaster for the artwork and bonus tracks, but when I want to hear this album, in goes the "Demon" cd...
or maybe even the Columbia "Pure Pop.." cd...just my humble opinion.

The remaster does have better resolution though, the Demon sounds very thin and bass light as with many early cds due to the limits of the A to D converters used in the studio at he time.

I prefer the original Columbia (North American release) CD. The track list is superior to that of the original UK album and the sound on the Columbia CD edges out the Demon CD. I would go so far as to classify the Columbia version of "Pure Pop For Now People" as 'audiophile' quality 9at least to my ears). It use to be pricey on the second-hand market - not certain what it goes for these days. I never see it even after the re-release of a couple of years ago.

I was not kidding, I had no idea what "dialing up the dials" meant. I personally do not find the Lowe remasters to fit your description :hide: but I do agree with your comments on the UK CD's, they do sound very nice. Are they a different mastering compared to the USA discs. I would like to eventually get all the early albums and if the CBS sound as good as the Demons it gives me more options. I do know about the track differences on a couple, but some are identical song-wise.

    Thanks!

I put them up so you could see the original mastering dates. I don't have any Nick CDs on Columbia/CBS except Basher. I have his other CDs from the 90s onwards but they're all US releases. If you can't find the original CDs the box set The Doings on Demon mfg UK will do nicely for the 77-98 material, 86 songs. You can get it used on Amazon for $45.

    Love So Fine has some of his funniest lyrics ever;

She's got me whipping like a flag on a pole

She's got a pair of tits that just won't quit
    Well everything that she's got
You know I like it a lot
She's so fine, a love so fine

I have two of the box sets; the first one came unstapled so I picked up a second one when I found it used several years ago, with the intent of selling the first one that had become unstapled. I guess the problem is more common than I thought...

Regarding the Demon cds, I have them all except for Nick The Knife, although I do have the US Columbia pressing of that title. I believe that was the end of the line for the Columbia pressings until "Basher" came out in the late 80s.

I have all the Demon CDs except Rose Of England and Jesus Of Cool, got the Yep Roc. I have an extra Abominable Showman still sealed to trade for Rose Of England.

BTW I just compared the British Radarscope Labor of Love lp to the American Columbia lp. No Contest. The Columbia blows the Radarscope away. It's a night and day difference.

Why are so many fussing with cds anyway? The bass and room filling presence is so amazing on these (and all) lps that there is simply no excuse not to get a turntable and find out what is available on this medium. The cd is 70 bucks used on Amazon and you can probably get the lp for $5 on Ebay. The improvement on the lp is mind blowingly better.

Any recording made before 1985 needs to be heard on vinyl. OK I'll get off my soapbox now.
