Rhino is hard at work with a new series which is different that its Quadio series. First batch: Alanis has Atmos & 2.0 Hootie has Atmos, 5.1 & 2.0 Doors has Atmos, 5.1 & 2.0 Fleetwood Mac has Atmos, 5.1 & 2.0 (and Silver Springs in all three streams!) It's sweet to be a Surround music fan at the moment!
Let's see what they do with this. I am enjoying the atmos mixes on apple music to varying degrees. Kraftwerk's 3-D live is really the best one I have heard.
I see the Doors compilation as great for people who do not wish to own all the albums. It sold extremely well on CD, LP an Cassette so it makes a lot of sense to see it offered in a new format for the 21st century.
It's time that we see artists like The Cure, New Order, or even Led Zeppelin that have never had the treatment get their releases out on blu ray. And, since it's rhino, Depeche Mode comes to mind for atmos mixes.
Several years back, I managed to collect all the Depeche Mode SACD+DVD-V sets. I think there were 11 studio albums & 1 live album in Multichannel SACD format. They are nice.
Man, I love this idea and I love the two ancient titles, but I hate that these are exclusively available on Rhino's website.
This is probably off-topic, but all I want is the original mixes of the Doors albums in hi-res. I didn't get that with the Perception box, although honestly the CDs sound fantastic. I don't really care for the remixes, especially on the first album. Now if they would get someone to do NEW surround mixes of the Doors albums, I would buy them all over again.
These are new Atmos mixes by Bruce Botnick. For the original mixes, you might want to track down the DCC and SF CDs.
Are they the same as the Atmos mixes on Apple Music for the individual albums? Is the 5.1 the same as the DVD-Audios? Is the 2.0 mix the original mix or the DVD-A stereo remix, or a new stereo mix?
All Doors albums, including the ones without Morrison, were all released in hi-res in their original mixes back in 2014. I bought the entire collection then. HDtracks
Fantastic! Way to go, Rhino! This is a perfect opportunity for many streaming-only Atmos mixes to get a physical release. Rhino has been killing it lately with their surround blu-ray discs! I can’t wait to see what else is released down the line.
Not my choices I like to buy but I am happy that they want to give us real releases in surround and atmos
Not gonna happen, but wouldn’t it be amazing if they had a digital version of the Steve Hoffman/Kevin Gray mastering for Rumours and they include that as the 2.0 mix on this blu-ray? I can dream.
You can get the original stereo mixes on this which also includes the surround mixes that were in the Perception box.
