Out on Monday over here. Cheap from Amazon. Nice cover.

Better hope Phil Spector's under restraint if it's in stereo. This is the man who called his box set BACK TO MONO and included a pin saying the same inside the box.

Remastering would be a more important issue. The box is okay but the material could use a better hand at the console.

Don't worry about Phil, he has other things on his mind at the moment... ;)

When I try to order the CD from play.com I get the notice
"This item can only be delivered to a UK address"

It must be a limited release for U.K.

It's listed on amazon.com for sale as an import. Maybe try amazon.co.uk.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I sure wish someone would start a serious examination of the Spector vaults. There must be some good alternative/unreleased material there.

In addition, a decent examination of Spector's post-'60s work is sorely missing...

    ?????

Also, as many here know, the Christmas album was released in stereo, as a Warner-Spector LP. There was also a stereo version of the Ronettes' album available for a while.

Maybe they'll come a time where his vaults will be tapped.:)

    His work deserves it.

The signature area of the last post in yellow and I can't see it clearly. :shh:

    Is me and my monitor?

    No, it's the sig.

Highlight it and all will become clear -- or at least legible.

As it's cheap I've ordered it. I will be pleasantly surprised if any of it turns out to be stereo.

If nothing else it's got a pretty cover... :)

Make sure to select Euros rather that Pounds Sterling. If you try to purchase in Pounds you will get that "UK Only" message.

I don't know your definition of 'cheap', but it is expensive here! I just looked at Amazon.com, they want $27.50, + a $29 "source" fee, over $57! at the same time the mono box is $12.99? what is going on? and what in the hell is a 'source' fee? is Spector involved in Grand Larceny now, on top of murder charges?

I have my legitimate CD library of Phil Spector well covered by the boxed set which I ordered through my local Book World store for $19.99.

Remember I live in England. It's about £8.95 ($19?) including postage from play.com - British prices are generally outrageous.

    Just buy it from amazon.uk.

I buy from them quite frequently, including the recent Doors box.

Here's the pricing for the Spector thing:

    Items: £7.65
    Postage & Packing: £3.08

    Total before VAT: £10.73

In US Dollars that is currently $21.22

I just visited play.com, and it looks like your quoted price is right...IF I live in England...I noticed 2 posted currencies on the left of the page, when I click on 'international' I can only get DVD listings...looks like cd's are unavailable (the page also switches to 'playusa') too bad, because I also saw the British U2 cd I just ordered (u218) was much cheaper than what I just paid...seems like it's U.S. prices that are outrageous...maybe the dollar is falling faster than I thought :p

    I just got it...

Christmas album: same as the 2002 reissue, mastering by Spector and Larry Levine

Phil Spector's Wall of Sound Retrospective: new mastering (SBM/DSD) by Bob Ludwig. "River Deep, Mountain High" is in stereo but the others sound like mono to my ears. One unreleased track, a solo (guitar and vocals) run through "Spanish Harlem" by Spector, without recording date.

The reissue mention the same names responsible for the Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke or Cameo Parkway reissues, so it looks like we're on the eve of a massive Philles reissues program.

Here are some wave forms for "Be My Baby".

First, the 1991 version, second the 2006 remaster.

    Additional information:

1991 master: peak at -3.7 dB
    2006 master: peak at - 0.1 dB :(

  24. Well, if the dynamic range is there, who's hurt by it being cut louder? If it is compressed that is another story.

As for early Spector in stereo, the stereo would logically be W I D E so if it sounds mono to you it probably is, a darn shame too as most of the tracks exist in stereo someplace. I have a promo deejay cd w/ "Be My Baby" in stereo on it and it sounds loverly.

I bought it last week and I'm happy with the retrospective disc. The dynamic range is all there and it sounds much better than ''Back to Mono''. As for the christmas album, I really wish they'd done a new remaster of it as well.
