Better than the Sixties albums and Blood On The Tracks? And now I had thought that I've heard everything that there was to hear on this thread!

Than again you liked Trans immensely didn't you? I didn't .....so that goes to show that opinions are quite divergent . To each his own I suppose...Vive la difference!

What is your favorite Shakey album BTW?

this news floors me, I have to say.

Will Dan or Ben be playing the pedal steel guitar? Or both of them?

it has the makings of a timeless classic if they both simply do their jobs.

    wow

I've been saying these guys should get together for years. I have high hopes for this one.

Dan playing pedal would probably be the right guess for this album. I wonder if DL has brought in his session guys or is Shakey bringing in his?

He wants a Grammy like Dylan album. Throw a duet with Bono and it gets airplay. CSN are hitting an indian casino near Palm Springs and Albuquerque and opening (how sad) for Petty down the road. Petty should look at '70 footage and bow down.

I don't imagine that he wants Lanois to do what he has done in the past on his album. I'd guess that he wants to put Lanois' talents to work on an atypical assignment. I can't imagine him saying "Can you get me the sound you got for Dylan?" Also this:

My style is really an approach, and the approach seems to vary from application to application. I have that beautiful Steinway piano behind us and I have a stereo microphone hooked up to it. If some happens to pay a visit and they play the piano and then we are ready to record. So preparation is a big part of what I have always done and it still is. I keep instruments plugged in basically and that increases my chance of some lovely spontaneous moment as people stop by.

I appreciate your comments BUT does Shakey AKA NY really care about a Grammy? He's someone who also came to dis the fraudulent Rock and Roll Hall of Shame as well to his great credit. I don't see this as a business decision for Shakey but rather an artistic one at this point of his "illustrious" career.

I dunno Butch, I thought Lanois' work on Oh Mercy was really good. Time Out Of Mind on the other hand really drags for me. I couldn't even get through it one time.

Back to Neil, this should be an interesting experiment. I think sometimes artists work with Lanois for his "sound", but forget the melodies to go along with it. Hopefully Neil has a pocket full of melodies for this one.

I would agree. I just think he felt like it was time to try a different producer. He pretty much has been producing himself (or co-producing with the usual people) since Briggs died. I guessing he is looking for someone with a different perspective.

D, you know what I didn't like Robbie Robertson first solo album at first because I felt that the production by DL overweighed the tunes. Upon multiple listenings ,my opinion had sofetened. I gave Oh Mercy a similar try and found it rather wanting in the end. As per Oh Mercy, the songs are better on that one than Time Out of Mind. Even still there were certain production elements that I didn't enjoy on it. And I do see that we have a similar viewpoint on Time Out Of Mind, which makes us a vocal albeit tiny minority against the tyranny of the majority!

WW, he had come back together with Niko Bolas after all these years of all people so anything is possible with Shakey. I don't believe that he cares about a golden statue being on his mantelpiece for a second. He derives more pleasure from annoying the suits NOT embracing them if anything. His tireless and wandering muse wouldn't let him make an album to please the Armani wearing executives who worry more about the quarterly report than an album's musical content anyway.

"Light A Candle" is my fave from "Fork in the Road". A whole album of stuff like that would blow my mind. Gimme pedal steel!

I loved Time Out of Mind. I thought it was the best Dylan album since Blood on the Tracks. The production was great, the songs even better . (Cold Irons Bound is a stone classic, Highlands is a gas) I like Lanois solo records, Teatro and Wrecking Ball, not a fan of the PG album he did, or the Robbie Robertson.

Anyhow, I am interested in the comment that Neil dissed the RRHOF. I missed that.
Any source for that? I recall Neil being front and centre at quite a few of the RRHOF performances ( Levee Breaks train wreck for one.)

I am still hoping Glenn Buxton rises from the grave to burn the place down.

Lanois and Young seem like oil and water to me. But if Neil's willing to actually work with Lanois and not rely 100% on first takes and initial sonic impressions, this could be something!

Well, Crosby does hint that it's a solo acoustic record.

I don't mean to pee on anyone's parade but considering the number of albums NY has ditched, he could easily spend six months in the studio with Daniel Lanois and we could still end up with a couple of songs published twenty years later on Chrome Dreams III or something...

"Here is what is" type of sound would really fit with Neil's voice/writtings

Isn't that the point of Crazy Horse? Are they supposed to sit around the house practicing mixolydian scales when Neil is otherwise occupied?
