The WTB isn't as hard to find as the PPM is. I got my WTB fairly cheap if I remember correctly. I'm stilltrying for the PPM not as hard a s I use to look but ya never know one may pop up and go under the radar so to speak.
    Your welcome for the reply.

I’m with you; apparently I was confused to begin with, but now I’m totally bamboozled by the explanation of the term and how it should be applied.

Where the term is used in the UK Record Collectors Guide it refers to both the 1969 1 Box reissues and the 1982 mono reissues as “repressings”, with earlier reissues of single albums referred to as "2nd pressings" or "3rd pressings" etc. What is different about the 1969 and 1982 pressings is that an entire set was produced at the one time, not isolated reissues of single albums here and there as before ie: in 1969 the stereos plus 3 monos were reissued (and used the previous tube cut metal parts) and in 1982 the mono set was reissued (often reported as also being from the old tube cut metal). The salient point for an audiophile forum is that it’s clear from the matrices posted earlier that the 1982 set doesn’t always use the old tube cut parts, and that new lacquers have been cut for a fair proportion of sides to complete the run at some point, and that these recuts are solid state. It’s probably true that it’s possible to assemble an entire 1982 tube cut mono set, but you can’t rely on putting that set together without first checking on the matrix numbers.

The misinformation that is being perpetuated is that if you buy the 1982 monos then you’ll automatically get the same mastering as the 1960’s monos, with the only major difference being the thinner vinyl. I’ve read it at other sites, and also here, and what I’m pointing out is that it ain’t necessarily so.

I have to say that this series of "My Beatles Quest" threads, which shortly after this original thread spread into the Beatles' individual album threads, is one of the greatest resources on the Steve Hoffman forums. Anyone who aimed to put together a collection of the best possible stereo and mono pressings of the group's catalog had lots of great information in these threads...and for people who wanted to find an excellent alternative to the best sounding pressings or simply wanted to add a great "second best" pressing had everything they needed herein. Cheers for reopening, Steve!
