The recent remaster of New Morning was a massive improvement IMO :)

I'll have to get Blood on the Tracks as it is one of my favourite albums ever and the 2003 SACD was a little on the bright side. It will be The Basement Tapes first time on SACD so I suppose I will fork out for that as well...

MFSL might as well reissue SACD titles that are steady sellers in any format. It makes business if not artistic sense.

It's not like a MFSL sacd will sound anything like the earlier sacds! Those 2003 releases were moderately to insanely bright (depending on the title).

I can't wait for KoB. I wasn't spinning vinyl until last year and am ecstatic that I don't have to fork over hundreds for the now OOP KoB 45 RPM Classic issue.

Art is right that MoFi and AF consumers aren't necessarily the people who'd buy vinyl from a major label for the free downloads that are often included.

I'm with Mike's thinking on these as an initial impression. I'm also keeping into consideration the fact that 2012 may be a pretty intense year on the wallet for us archive/reissue nuts. When I saw this thread, I had one thought as it concerns keeping up with all of these reissues and the idea that a lot of surprises may be in store for us during the upcoming year. I am not one to get headaches, but my wallet just groaned loud enough to let me know that I might be getting a few pretty soon.
I am going to take these titles on a case by case basis and really do some serious thinking about which ones I might plink down for (if any). You guys are presenting some interesting arguments for getting certain titles. A few of you are also presenting some good arguments for passing on these as well.
The question I have is this. Are these all coming out at once or are they going to be spaced out over the course of the year like most MOFI titles?

Exactly right. This does make business sense and MoFi is a business first and foremost. Why the constant reissuing in the mass and audiophile markets of "Hotel California"? The answer to that is that it sells extremely well in any format. Why "Time Out"? The same reason. Carole King's Tapestry? The same reason.

Agreed 100%! There are so many albums that have never had a wholly satisfactory release on CD that deserve the hi-rez treatment.

How about something from EMI for a change?

Best to contact the label with suggestions ([email protected]), I highly doubt they will get them by reading here.

Wasn't there a rumour about Radiohead? That would be incredible.

Why is Another Side of Bob Dylan available in the 2-LP 45 RPM format, but Blood on the Tracks isn't? I'd whip out the credit card in heartbeat for a 2-LP Blood on the Tracks - at 50+ minutes long, Blood on the Tracks screams for a 2-LP cutting.

Really curious to find what tapes are being used for Kind Of Blue...

I'm wondering about this as well as the stereo master tape was recorded at the "incorrect" speed, and every modern release fixes that with Mark Wilder's remix. Music Direct saying it is mastered from the original master tapes implies it is not a remix from the 3-track tapes.

That would be amazing, but I don't see it happening. Why? Because MFSL seems to be the king of vaporware, especially for the titles I actually want.
Besides, some very nice vinyl rips from one of the most respected rippers just came onto the 'net, and I'm not sure I'll ever need another one.

    That is the crucial question.

I would purchase the original stereo mixes of Bringing It All Back Home and Blonde on Blonde in a heartbeat, whether on SACD or Redbook—even if sourced from overseas or safety masters. I have absolutely no interest in remixes.

Like others, I am having a hard time getting too excited about audiophile releases of the same titles over and over. I'll probably want a number of the SACD's just for collecting purposes, and I'll take a hard look at Kind of Blue on 45rpm and BOB and BOTT on vinyl.

I agree that the Basement Tapes is a downright bizarre choice.

I agree that the 80s-era 2 CD set on Columbia does sound quite good considering the source, quality of the recording, etc. and here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Basement-Tapes-Bob-Dylan/dp/B000002552

yeah Radiohead sacds would be awesome. The ok computer UK vinyl original pressing is top notch double album though so am not sure it need a vinyl reissue unless you are thinking primarily about the bends which yes would be better as a double album and 45rpm pressing would be killer. But if Mobile fidelity put out ok computer at 45rpm that would be 4 lps and they would charge $100 like they did for blonde on blonde. I would pay it being a megafan but not sure at that price much of a market.

Maybe they've found the mono master :D

Totally agree that Blood On The Tracks should be the one to get the 45 treatment. Another Side? Makes no sense that this inferior album gets it and Blood doesnt.

....and yes with an album as long as Blood On The Tracks is the 2 LP 45 would be idea for sonic improvement. I dont get it.

I don't think that Another Side is a weak album, but, like The Basement Tapes, it's not exactly a super audiophile recording to begin with.

I would much, much rather see Blood on the Tracks get the 2-LP treatment. My Sundazed mono Another Side is good enough for me.

Given what MFSL has released in the past ten years, I'd say it's almost certain they'll be using the same Michael Brauer remixes that appeared on the 2003 CDs for these titles. Aside from the mono mix of Sinatra's "Only the Lonely," are there any recent examples of MFSL releasing a mix that had previously never appeared on CD?
