Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners (Riverside RISA-226-6) Rollins, Roach, Pettiford, Monk. Quite a band.

Started out late yesterday afternoon with the piece "Beauty is Rare Thing" from This Is Our Music and let it roll from there as I weeded, raked, and etc.

I was walking home tonight from a disappointing show at a local jazz bar when this song came on my earbuds , this version by Roberta Flack ( Ballad of The Sad Young Men ) I can say with confidence that without being a member of this thread and without your relentless dedication to highlighting neglected artists or tunes Tribute , I would not have known of this song. I did a search to find this recent series of posts. As much as I hate algorithmic playlists , I must have listened to this song a couple of times after this , for it to be inserted into my earbuds , and it just killed me. No histrionic vocals , just heartfelt understatement set to unvarnished words. I was surprised by the emotional wallop and did some online sleuthing and found this interesting obsessive ( in a good way ) tale of discovery and having a nephew who has transitioned to a place of contentment , I can relate to it in a most profound and fortunately positive way , it added a rich emphasis to already richly embedded lyric. Mark Shilansky Thanks for the place for this to happen @Lonson , I tend to take it for granted.
I played that album so much when it was released, still my favorite Santana. I saw Santana at the Greek Theater in Berkely, 5th row, about the same year.
Probably most of us are not in New York City and/or well-heeled enough to buy tickets to tomorrow's Jazz Foundation of America's benefit Gala "A Great Night in Harlem", but it will be live streamed for free (real time only, I believe.)
Haven't enjoyed this cd in a while. I was thinking of my late first wife Helen, and that led me to think of listening to Helen Merrill, and I saw this one, which was sitting neglected on a shelf a long time. Helen Merrill featuring Stan Getz "Just Friends" Emarcy cd
Phil Woods, Tom Harrell "The Jazz Masters" Groove Merchant/Solid Records Japan cd Just in from Japan, these recent Groove Merchant reissues sound really good, and I've always enjoyed this band. Alto Saxophone, Clarinet – Phil Woods Bass – Steve Gilmore Drums, Producer – Bill Goodwin Piano – Hal Galper Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Tom Harrell
My daughter has some clothes in this fashion though I don't see her wearing them much. Just the other day my mother-and-law and I were looking at a ripped up sweater in the wash wondering where it came from and almost threw it out.
Up early today as I had to drive my wife to the hospital for a heart procedure. She’s likely going to need surgery. Listening on the way home to Disc 3.
