I just got out my black face US, Made in Japan, Dark Side Of The Moon Cd and put it in my Denon DCD-1420 and the words Emphasis showed up on the display. Cool!
Denon, Luxman, Marantz, Yamaha and Oppo SACD players I've owned have all decoded pre-emphasis. I don't think I've ever owned a player that doesn't decode pre-emphasis and always assumed that a player would decode it if it had the compact disc logo on the packaging/manual.
That's what I thought too, but in recent years some manufacturers don't seem to adhere completely to the Redbook standard. I suppose this coincides with the CD's decrease in popularity and Sony / Philips no longer being leaders in the electronics field...
Oppo's only if the flag is TOC (table of contents). Why I never went further with them I had a Denon multi SACD that didn't either. I think if it's a dedicated SACD/CD player one shouldn't have any issues, TOC or SUBQ.
Depends on the player. Check John Atkinson's measurements on Stereophile to know for sure. Here is an old example of a dCS player that does not do it properly: dCS P8i SACD player Measurements
It doesn't mean it cannot decode pre-emphasis, it just means Stereophile did not specifically measure the feature (which usually they do). I would be surprised if a Marantz player did not decode correctly.
Fortunately, the Germans at Stereoplay/Audio did and and the SACD30n decodes (almost) correctly pre-emphasised CD data (see issue of January 2021 of the magazine).
You've just list the SACD player measured by Stereophile that do proper deemphasis the previous page : I can add other SACD players from yesteryear that do proper deemphasis as they have been measured by some German hifi mag (Stereoplay, Audio, Audiophile, Stereo, ...) : The Sony SCD-555ES (no to be confused with the US-only 5 discs changer SCD-C555ES tested by Stereophile), which is sort of a strip-down SCD-1/SCD-777ES sold in Europe and Japan. The Onkyo DV-S939.
