    Dovetails nicely with what Crosby had to say in his interview.

    I don't think the reason is racism, though, and I wish Carlos had not played that card. The reason is that the mass media part of American popular culture has devolved pretty dramatically into a supersize junk food emporium.

    Responsibility for our cultural heritage, and I'd define cultural heritage as those moments where we've generated excellence that the whole world joins with us in wanting to preserve, has always been a tough sell in this country. Now, though, careful manipulation of marketplace forces means that there are fewer and fewer times when this excellence is recognized or preserved within the culture.

    This is a terrible state of affairs, I think.

    Yep, as they say, the predominant color here is "green". Frankly, it never even occurred to me that MTV might recognize Elvin, but more power to Carlos for using his bully pulpit to challenge our national priorities.
