Blackie, I meant the mastering lab of E.G. records. Not the famous one held by the late Doug Sax. ;-)
After reading the last posts once more, I think that Giorgio idea could be the good one.
What makes me change my mind is the WEA logo on the label...
UK 1st pressings rarely mention WEA.
Anyway, this unique mastering doesn't sound as good as the A1, B4, C1, D1.

    Edit: it's this one, it's a re-press...

This is exactly the same one I acquired yesterday. Is it a CDN first pressing? I haven't spun it yet, it needs a good cleaning. It will be interesting to compare to the 2015 vinyl I also have (and expected so much more from). It's not in the best condition with the usual surface "character" of a well loved album. It's not demolished by any means but it's a ways from mint, probably a "Good" grade.

Still not sure.. I have started a topic on Discogs to see if it helps. The reason I thought it might be a first pressing was the odd US/CDN packaging, and lack of bilingualism.

Brilliant! Now what was that other thread where the EG thing was discussed?

Don't remember the thread title, but IIRC, it was in the classifieds and hound dogged by @Giorgio .

So there’s a lot to take in on this thread and I may have missed some but wondering if anyone can help me figure out if my recently acquired CRC version is a US 1st press:

    Side 1: T1 ST-SS 753309- CRC-1 @GP (all etched)
Side 2: ST SS 753310-1C Columbia NY (all stamped)
    Side 3: ST-SS- 753311-1A (all etched)
Side 4: ST -SS -753312-1A (all stamped)

Strange copy after revising much of the matrix codes here.

    Thanks

I’m thread-jumping, but who mastered the early US pressings? Mine doesn't have @GP anywhere.

Yes the original US pressings rocked like holy hell! Sounded great no matter what equipment you played it on.

One of these "event records" the kids today would know little about. Platinum sales before the month was over. So much music to get into, artwork to check out. I remember getting some frozen junk food snacks, planning on staying in to celebrate this big event. It turned out to be a bit much and a little complex musically for my little boy musical brain. Another six months or year and it would all sink in proper.

  21. I think I have cracked this decade-plus mystery! I have the same pressing—with the F.T. on two sides and the Piros 4th side. The F.T. is not Atlantic manager Frank Tabano, as previously guessed. They are not a person’s initials. It stands for Fidelatone Mfg., which handled the plating on those two sides for the Presswell pressings. Fidelatone can be identified alternatively as “FT” or “Fį” in the deadwax on the Rolling Stones’ It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll. They handled pressings, platings, etc., including work for Swan Song.

Fideltone is listed as FT, The mastering credit is listed as F. T.
AND iIRC, he is credited with mastering this title.

Did sd 4 not have a mastering engineer listed? I would have expected a GP.
