I don't think the 1971 BBC concert is at all representative of what they did on most nights that year. From a performance standpoint Japan '71 slays the BBC concert that year.

Two problems with 1977 and 1980:

    a) no multi-track recordings
    b) the huge decline in Page's playing

True because most of my DVD info comes from somewhere else! :D

Yeah. No need for 77-80 gigs. Leave those to the bootleggers.

Since reading this thread, I don't care WHAT they release, I'd just love to see a NEW LZ RELEASE sometime this year! :righton:

I'd like to see Page relax the multi-track only rule and release something like, let's say, a SB tape of Memphis 1970. They were good enough on that tour that there wouldn't be a need to mix and match from different nights, etc.

The Floyd sets were mentioned in May but work in terms of content was started well before then. But I can tell you that in May they did not have those Blu-rays/DVDs (no idea on cds) done nor were they anywhere near being finished. I know some at least one title wasn't even delivered to a pressing plant as late as end of August.

You're right Nov 8th could have been a placeholder because earlier in the year the details that someone else provided were that they planned a release around November time. So it could be just that. But they still have time to press up the discs for a this year release.

But with JPJs recent post about the release being squashed even though it was planned and worked on who knows now.

If there is going to be a release this year it's likely going to be the o2 disc though since they did work on it this year. Just working the odds :)

The only problem with board tapes from early tours is that they might not have been recorded that well. Compare some of those earlier board fragments we have to say the 75 board boots we've had recently.

Not sure how much cleaning up they could do to make it sound good enough even for a fan type boot release.

I'm sure people would buy it anyway (big fans). :)

In my 30+ years of constant concert-going, a rumor that comes from a person "high up in the industry" or "close to the band" has about a 10% chance of being correct.

Anyway, I do hope they release it. It was an absolutely incredible show, and I hope that other fans will have the opportunity to see it. It was such a special show that, even though I'm not a ticket stub collector, I took this one and put it in a plexiglass holder for posterity - the tickets actually had the name of the purchaser printed on the face of the ticket, which is a nice touch.

This thread is quickly becoming Chris Christie-esque.

Myself, I'd rather hear more from them as a hungry, driving band instead of the rotting carcass the later years far too often represent.
Japan 1971. Chris says it's time.

The fact that the rehearsal tapes leaked is evidence that the audio portion of the O2 show was being worked on. The same thing happened around the time of the DVD/HTWWW releases -- high quality DVD releases of Earls Court and Knebworth surfaced along with very good soundboards of the Royal Albert Hall show.

Yes, Japan '71 was recorded. We don't know how many shows, but the band has the tapes. Page considered releasing some of the material during preparations for the DVD/HTWWW projects, but felt the tapes were inferior and held them back.

Yes, I remember seeing that on "Newsnight". It was "Black Dog" I think.

Not very interesting at all, I'm afraid. I heard one of the better sounding boots out there and its just not very compelling. Even a '77 show on DVD/cd would be better than the O2, and a 71 or Europe 73 would be fantastic.

Well judging by the Seattle 77 vid I'd rather have the o2.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that a '77 DVD release would be better than the O2. However, I understand the desire by fans get get an archival release containing vintage Zeppelin audio and video, even if it is 1977. If anything, obvious projects that could surface would be a CD release of the 1970 RAH show, Japan '71 audio release, and a 1975 Earl's Court audio/video release. There are plenty of other projects that could surface such as a retrospective live set compiling various audio from soundboards and multitracks spanning the band's entire career (in addition to including some rehearsals that are believed to still exist in Page's archives). There are also alternate studio outtakes, plus the existence of a possible "rock and roll oldies" album that the band recorded in the mid-70's. The Zeppelin archives may not be loaded like the Hendrix archives, but there is plenty of material to create some exciting vault releases.

Amen to this philosophy. He needs to loosen up in this regard.

As early as the late 70's, Page was talking about creating a "chronological live album" taking in the best of the band's own tapes of shows from 1969 to the present day ... Jimmy, IT'S TIME. :D

Seattle circulates and Silverdome and Atlanta Omni were both said to exist on video for use on videoscreens. Atlanta was only for the boxsuites.

That's it for possible 1977 videos unless BGP shot something in Oakland. I think Seattle is the only one Page has in his posession.

My joke was about Chris Christie: will he run or won't he? Answer: he won't. Will there be a Zep release or not? Hope so as I just received and am playing my RL Zep II lp. Heaven is in my living room as I type.
