I try to visit McKays in Knoxville every time I go through there. I have bought many of those "very scratched" cds for .92 cents. I've never seen one that was too scratched to play. They grade very conservatively.

the reason for this price is that with sales tax, it somes out to a nice, even $1

At least that was the original thought behind this price. With sales tax increases, it's slightly higher(one cent)

That's because I'm there everyday buying everything good. Just stay away, though, that's fine by me :D You would not believe the things I have found in that store.

Use a smiley next time. Collectors get tired of the threadcraps every time the discussion turns towards an expensive CD. Your post came off as another one of those threadcraps.

9.75% here - they should just make it 10% and be done for a while....

Curious: is this the same mastering as the original US version?

I don't get it either. LOL. But rare is rare and for 93 cents ya can't go wrong! LOL. Nice super find!!

One thing I could never figure out is why Japanese CDs 'usually', to me almost always, sound better than the US versions with the same mastering?? I don't know why, but to me they just do. Case in point: Jeff Becks 'Bootleg 06' and 'Live at BB Kings Blues Club'. I have the US and JN copies of both and the Japanese versions just sound better. Also bought a Ramones CD, their first album, on JN CD and it sounds wonderful.

What in the world can the Japanese be doing that is different?

One question that might surprise some of you : why do you collect Target CD ?
For their rarity, or sound quality ?
I think I've never heard nor seen a Target Cd in my life... This is why I'm asking, mere curiosity...

Honestly, both. Many are somewhat rare, others very rare and some ultra rare! A few have unique masterings as you can see from this thread:

    Overall, it's primarily a collector's thing. ;)

Hey, for the record the cashier spotted me a penny! So it cost me exactly one dollar. ;)

Wow, this find is just hilarious. Paying a dollar is like picking it out of a trash can - it's nothing..

(Anyone offering a ride to Nashville?)

Call me stupid but isn't this the same BD mastering as the old unremastered U.S. discs. Perhaps the attraction is more of a collectors thing.

Joe Sidore mastering mentioned earlier in the thread.
It is a major collectors item, huge coin in the past for this one if you want to sell.

If no sale, then I guess the point is moot.
