For the most part the songs The Beatles covered are my least liked songs of theirs. Among them Act Naturally , Dizzy Miss Lizzie, Everbody's Trying To Be My Baby and Till There Was You. On the other hand some of the covers are among their best ( Twist and Shout, Money...). But! Of their original songs which ranks as your least favourite(s) ? 'You Like Me Too Much' is George's weakest effort and from Lennon/McCartney I'll have to go with the slightly dated 'Misery'. It's not a bad song but it's far fron being a great one.
Tell Me What You See. Falls at the way bottom of my list. I agree that You Like Me Too Much is a relatively weak song but even in terms of George originals I’ll take it over either I Me Mine and For You Blue.
This is easy. I actually went through and ranked every single Beatles song in preparation for a Top 40 Thread that will surely one day come Lowest ranked originals for me: 1. Revolution 9 2. You Know My Name 3. Honey Pie 4. Little Child 5. Dig It You could argue Revolution 9 is a remixed version of Revolution and more of an experiment in avant garde than an original composition, and You Know My Name and Dig It are basically just jams. So Honey Pie and Little Child would be my answers. I don't mind Paul's sappy stuff at all but Honey Pie is just too over the top, never really worked for me. And Little Child is fine but its just extremely unmemorable to me, just a filler song that didn't have much thought put into it.
Hey Jude. It plods along with some really mawkish lyrics and the chant at the end is like musical hell for me.
I know what ya mean about this one. It's not bad but it's it's so Beatles-by-numbers....and a lot more McCartney than Lennon I'd wager. "I'll make bright your day " indeed.
Yea, it is primarily a Paul song. I’ve always “heard” The Hollies making a nice record out of this one. This is one of those ***exceptionally***rare times in which a Beatles version of their own song falls kinda flat.
Happy to oblige! I don't necessarily hate it, I like the experimental nature of it. Just not really much of a song and one that I skip 19 times out of 20. But the 20th time I'll listen to it and respect it because its so different.
Always had the feeling there was a lotta dislike for 'What Goes On' and several other Ringo tunes as well and while I don't agree with that mindset I kinda understand. But! ' If I Needed Someone' is an early Harrison classic, his first truly great song.
Of all the Beatles songs ever made, I can confidently say that this is the one I've taken the time to listen to the least!
"Something" is far worse and it was all over the radio for what seemed like an eternity. "Dig A Pony" is a close second.
I like ugly ducklings: Tell Me What You See, What Goes On, Little Child, Maxwell... keep them coming ... now don't tell me about Bungalow Bill.
I actually really like What Goes On. Probably not in the top half of Beatles tracks but I've always dug it and thought it fit well on Rubber Soul.
You Know My Name is the only song I can say I not only dislike but I absolutely detest. It's nails on a chalkboard for me. There are other tunes which aren't so great but that one just irritates the hell out of me.
If someone says 'Something' is one of the most beautiful ballads ever I'm not gonna argue but I'm not gonna argue with someone who says it's a sickeningly sweet bloated song either.
If someone keeps a tally of all the songs which get mentioned more than once, we could end up with some sort of “20 Greatest Misses” list. Which would probably be fab.
