I tend to agree with you although I don't think it was too bad. Like so many of todays action movies; much sizzle, very little steak.

Darth Maul, good name! The story and production went way off-track when the psychic lady was called in. What was with the gas mask? And "the Further" was basically their old house? Since when do astral travelers have to climb stairs and carry a lantern to see? sheesh! :help:

One thing I didn't get was how Bradley Cooper's character avoided the debilitating side-effects of the pill, the same side-effects that were killing everyone else.

yeah, but that's standard movie myth, like people shooting locks with one shot, getting punched in the face and not bleeding or getting a broken nose, jumping off cliffs with a rope tied to your waist without having your back broken in two, you know, stuff that would happen to mortals. For me, the most important aspect that they swept aside was why he was getting blackouts and why he was losing track of time. At this point, I thought the movie was heading into something interesting, possibly into science fiction.

In regards to Cooper's character, if the drug heightened your senses but also amplified your sense of self-worth so much it turned it into a fault, then I kind of get why his character becomes what he is. But it's not really developed and it's a shame because there are so many issues that would pop up. For example, issues of identity, addiction and responsibility to friends and family or those around you. But they are never developed because Cooper's character is so insulated, on the drug or not.

Seemed aimed at the Twilight crowd. Even had a modern rock soundtrack. Just a lot about nothing for me though it looks good. That bug eyed lead actress just annoys me.

I watched Cannes Man on BD. The film is rather so-so. However it was fun to see what the Cannes Festival is like and it's full of cameos by stars.
