I watched my latest Netflix rental, The Road, a couple of days ago. Excellent movie about life after the end of the world--as we know it.

A great movie that I haven't seen in many years.

How does it look on BD?

I suppose about as good as Universal is gonna bother to do. It could use some work here and there. The colour looks faded in some scenes. It looks considerably better than the DVD's. The first transition looks great. The audio is what it is for now, maybe ever? It doesn't benefit from DTS Master much, if any?

Serious Man - Liked it okay. The ending wasn't the greatest but I'm sure there was supposed to be a deep meaning there (or maybe not?). I give it a B.

Whip It (BD) - Predictable but very enjoyable coming of age drama/comedy/sports movie starring Ellen Page. Drew Barrymore directed it (her first) and also played a small role. Love the roller derby sequences. I'm a sucker for this kind of move. Grade = B+.

Watched "The Innocents" (1961) on dvd.

I really enjoyed it from start to finish, and watched the last five minutes twice it was so good.

I can't believe that I missed out on this great film all these years.

    Next up: "The Spiral Staircase"

I watched In Brudges which is billed as a comedy-drama. I didn't find so much comic about it. It's a clever story but I didn't love the film.

The scene where Brendan Gleeson wanders into the back of the frame with the post-cocaine ingestion bug eyes while Colin Farrell is annoying the little person actor and prostitute had me laughing hysterically, as did the bit with the oversized tourists at the beginning, but different strokes, I guess. :)

Sure Death Revenge aka Hissatsu 4: Urami harashimasu

    Director: Kinji Fukasaku
    Actors: Mondo Nakamura, Sonny Chiba

Sure Death Revenge is actually the fourth of five film spin-offs from the Hissatu TV series which means your missing a lot of background and character development. For fans of the genre or the actors it's worth a look, but not their best.

  13. One of my favorite gothic films. The late Deb Kerr is brilliant in it as well. An example of a perfect collaboration.

There's a few giggles in the movie, yeah. The conflict of the black midgets versus the white midgets and so forth. There's nothing funny about the premise once that is fully revealed.

Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid on DVD - One of my favorites, but I haven't bothered to upgrade to Blu Ray as reviews were pretty bad about the picture quality.

    The Hangover

Found it mildly amusing but only laughed three times.

    Waaaaay overrated IMHO.
A classic case of reputation and expectations far oustripping reality.

Wow, that's the opposite for me. I expected it to be mildly amusing at best, but thought it was tremendously funny!

Watched "Moon" on Blu-Ray, wow what a film.

The Damned United on Blu-ray. Great movie about the famous English football manager Brian Clough. I enjoyed it a lot even though I don't know anything about English football. The soundtrack even included Deep Purple's Flight of the Rat! Grade = B+

    The Hangover

It's on HBO right now, but I couldn't start it over, plus it was on standard HBO, so I popped in the widescreen DVD. So damn funny!!!

This is one of those movies I enjoy more and more each time I see it.
