Yeah, it is getting repetative but really Jimi's legacy is somewhat limited, at least in terms of variation.

Jimi might play some basic rhythm guitar on "Mercy Mercy", but Don Covay has stated that he did not play the intro riff. Anyway he appears to have liked it very much. A shame Atlantic didn't keep session logs of those sessions?

I hate to say this, but i have some serious issues about Valleys of Neptune. Unlike many others, i enjoy the title track, but i absolutely hate the 80's overdubs on Mr. Bad Luck. This is also the first time that i've found myself bored when listening to a Jimi Hendrix album. Some of the tracks would have been better on Dagger album, and some of the tracks on Dagger releases could have easily been released on a mainstream release. Well, at least we got Hear My Train a Comin'.

I will definitely buy the forthcoming box set, but because of VoN i'm a bit cautious about it.

I was killing time and checking on releases at a couple of online retailers this evening and decided to do a Google search on the upcoming West Coast Seattle Boy box set. As a result of my search, I see that Amazon is now listing the box and the new CD/DVDs of both Blues and BBC Sessions as being moved to November 2nd as the release date.

Valleys of Neptune was all right!

One or two tunes were overly-tampered-with,yeah, but as a whole I quite like it, and I know several fans who feel the same. I only say this because I hate to see it get knocked as if it was bad -- it's Jimi Effing Hendrix in a mostly-very-unoverdubbed way. And I like that!!

Other then the release date has any other info on this set been made available? Pics, track listing etc?
I thought I read in Rolling Stone a few months back when they first hinted at this, that they were taking a cue from how the Beatles did their anthology, and a documentary film was also going to be released...

Please refer to what ChrisM saved of when I posted excerpts from the Rolling Stone article. It may be contained within this particular thread.

I have read lots about the u coming box set but it's all speculation so far. Nothing official.
I do know that the recently aired Bio in the US will be included in the soon to be released set, slighty expanded.
    Speculation?

That's why I never listen too the fakey stuff (heard some pre-release MP3's & one cut on sat radio)!
    You remember my 'EP'?!?!
    "Vale of Neptune"
I took the wealth of knowledge of this forum, thanks everyone, and put it too good use by just 'burning' out the badd stuff. What's left is a solid effort; w/mastering we can live w/!

I'm thinking/hoping all the junk ('80's, etc...) was used up on the last release.
Plus, if any one from EH ever stops by here, their sure too know too use the un-futzed w/stuff!!!

At least one song from BG will be released on the Anthology.

Seems a weird move to chop up the Black Gold recordings and release a couple of songs here, a couple there... The people that have heard (or claim to) like Tony Brown make sure to mention that it's a very nice package. It would be strange for EH to spread it out thin. Black Gold is one (if not the) holy grails of unsurfaced Hendrix.

Probably they'll just use 1 or 2 songs a teaser for the complete BG release.
The Purple box had something similar: live tracks from RAH and Monterey (at time OOP, and this new mix later ofcourse issued on the Monterey release).
    Fans will buy BG anyway.

I know what`s taking so long? The purple box details were announced well in advance. Are they still deciding what the final tracklisting will be? I`m hoping they are going to use all available disc space.Maybe it`s something with the dvd.

Are they waiting to tie in an announcement with Sept 17th and the 40th anniversary?

So I should be able to just order anything regardless of PAL/NTSC concerns as long as it's 0 region. ?

Email from EH said effectively "We don't know. Buy it locally".
Really not helpful at all where i live.

Perhaps EH is trying to avoid unfavorable pre press.
They can use parts of BG to fill the void on the new release
allowing them to milk us again when the complete BG comes out.
Valley of Neptune sounded unfinished, not bad, but I did not buy it.
Unfortunately they are down to left overs in the studio outtakes department
meaning they must rely on the Dagger releases of boots to demonstrate Jimi's
real genius. I've collected live Jimi for 35 years and there is a LOT to release
in the boot category..Much of it a better representation of Jimi than unfinished studio takes.

Why is everyone acting as if they know what's on this set? And why are they using speculation to bash EH?

Valley of Neptune is the JHE, for the most part, in the studio, playing live. If that sounds unfinished to you, then I don't understand your preference for live tracks -- which most of these ARE!!

It's my opinion that VoN gets bashed a lot, and most of the criticism is utterly lacking any credible justification. It's also my opinion that it is a much better album than you and the other bashers are willing to admit. It's a wonderful snapshot of a moment in time, the band was on fire, and Jimi didn't need all the overdubs to prove how great he was and what he and his incredible band could achieve with only three people playing.

(Yes, there are two lamentable vocal overdubs from the eighties, but if you are going to grind an ax about them, then at least face up to the fact that Noels vocals on the official albums are pretty bad, but that is no reason to not listen to those albums. It's a double standard, that is completely untenable.)

Additionally -- I like the live stuff too, but the studio stuff has a little thing called sound quality that the live recordings can't match.
