Aye, Thomas; their best collection of songs, and a one-of-a-kind recording.

 Minstrel In The Gallery is my fave Tull album. Much love for WarChild, too.

    French single.

Too bad mine is such in a rough shape, it's a great photo. Anyone has a picture of it in better condition?

About 2/3 of Passion Play. The 'Overseer' (edit # whatever it is) to me is one of the heaviest Tull tracks ever - I consider it to be 'proto-metal'. Back in the 1970's the radio stations were cool enough to play stuff like that; they're not anymore that's for sure (radio stations being cool enough that is).

Stand Up then Aqualung Then Thick...Brick. I see them this Friday and I am way fired up about it.

FWIW I like Roots to Branches a lot, too.

[threadcrap]Okay, I've been meaning to ask this for awhile; I've been wanting to get some later Tull (that I've not heard), like Catfish Rising, Rock Island, Roots To Branches etc. As a dude who really likes the early stuff (Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Living In The Past), which latter-day Tull album(s) might I consider?[/threadcrap]

It would've been better to do a poll.

'Thick As A Brick' for me, 'Stand Up' a close second and 'Aqualung' behind. But I like all of them.

While I don't really choose to listen to latter day Tull anymore, I think the best recent album of theirs, by far, is Roots To Branches.

Rock Island and J-Tull.com are ok but the style is pretty narrow hard-rock when compared to some of their other stuff. It lacks the subtlety and vareity of their best material.

Catfish Rising has some really nice songwriting and arrangement but Anderson's voice is at its worst and, for me, unlistenable.

Roots To Branches, meanwhile, finds Anderson finally being able to use his voice effectively, and the infusion of middle-eastern sounds gives the album some energy and creativity.

Stand Up.. not just a great record, a great sounding record.

  18. Agree about the Roots to Branches recommendation for bhazen. However, I would advise NOT to expect anything but a TOTALLY different Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson as vocalist. If you leave your Aqualung, Benefit, etc. expectations at the door you'll be okay and should get off on a pretty far-out "modern"-day album.

I love Catfish Rising - I have no problem with the vocal - in fact, I like the vocal.
Rolling Stone mag called it a return to form for Jethro Tull.

  21. (BTW, I love your avatar picture, Tootull!)

I too like those (Catfish Rising's) vocals! Particularly on "Thinking Round Corners", where he manages to sound like a cross between Popeye and Howlin' Wolf... Gotta love him for that... Unique!

Last night in Atlanta they kicked butt. Anyone who thinks Jethro Tull should retire needs to get their head examined!
