I'll have to double check, but I think that's the radio show broadcast reel I bought. The only 12" reel to reel in my collection.

Plus at least one exclusive cut... for sucker completeists like me... you?
    How is Mounteux? Should I just burn a cd-r? or dvd-r? :)

The Montreux DVD is essential IMO.

The band and Ian were in great form that day!

(DVD) I've only listened in 5.1 - it's very good.

I don't have surround, just plain old Stereo, suits me swell...

Make you a deal, I'll buy Montreux 2003 if you buy Best of Acoustic!

I've only listened to the 2.0 PCM. As always with the Montreux stuff, the sound is wonderful.

It's a great trilogy of albums but this peaks for me. I don't think Ian has reached such lyrical peaks so consistantly since. Some of the imagery and wordplay are stunning.

    What a band!

Agreed, a great band, in their prime 68-78. Not much of the same caliber since, sadly... But, man, when Ian was on, his lyrics just kill, and the band...

"...let me bring you "Songs From The Wood"...

IMO the last truly great Tull album (although "Crest Of A Knave" was a great return to form of sorts)

I never thought of this analogy for these albums, and I have loved SFTW & HH since they were released, but you are absolutely RIGHT! I prefer HH to SFTW, but they were my top two favorite Tull albums until Roots to Branches came out. I never cared for Stormwatch, though.

I never listened to "A" or "Under Wraps".

    Songs from the Wood.

    Yeah. My favourite JT. :righton:

  16. Wondering why this thread wasn't created as poll, but any way...

    'Heavy Horses' for me.

It was the first Tull album I bought right out of the gates back in the day, but aside from that, it's also a great album, that's now a classic.

I just picked up a nice vinyl copy of Heavy Horses today. I've never heard this album so I'm excited to hear it.

Songs From The Wood makes me feel better than I could know.

I noticed Ian's voice really changing on that one. It was slightly evident to me on Too Old to Rock and Roll but this one was when he had all that back-throat grizzle that never went away. All Tull became a little tough for me after this album because of his voice. The Benefit voice (that I absolutely love) was all but completely MIA by the end of the 70s.

I haven't SFTW in years and I'd really love to again. Never replaced the LP with a CD.

    This isn't a threadcrap is it?::angel:

What's the consensus on the live album from this period- Bursting Out?

I saw them in '78 and it was a fantastic show. John Evan was a nut.
