Are you sure you mean CCD-1044 and not CDP 32 1044 2?

The CCD-1044 in Roland's table of EAC peaks is a WG version, maybe the UK Nimbus version shares the same mastering as the later CDP 32 1044 2?

    I've got the CDP 32 1044 2 and it's a Swindon press, complete and times at 43:27.

    Here I go again...

From memory: :D When I first bought Aqualung at the dawn of the CD era - the USA & Canadian CD's were badly edited and the hiss level leading into Wind Up was unacceptable to me. All the early import CD's WG, Japan+ that I had or that friends owned were complete versions with acceptable hiss levels.

I've concluded that the UK blue box (43:34timing) CDP32 1044-2 inner ring CDP 321044 2 . 2 - :3:10EMI Swindon is the best balanced sound to my ears - hiss intact at an acceptable level and of all the versions I've heard Up To Me is my favourite in sound here.

I hated this CD when it came out. There was something wrong about the sound all around and yes, I was annoyed as heck about Wind Up. I understand the warmth argument BUT there's a something missing from this. Maybe I should use some Walker CD solution with this and see what happens......

My UK Swindon CDP32 1044 is 43:33 and sounds good.

I also have a VK Canada cd that times at 43:24 and sounds good as well. It has different peak values to anything posted in this thread. Another unique mastering?

Have you heard the Made in Japan for West Germany version - matrix number 610016-222? It has been compared to the DCC version. Very crankable:thumbsup:

According to Roland's EAC table, the Japan for WG has the same mastering as the UK CDP 32 1044-2. It's a great sounding disc IMHO :righton:

we need to get a complete listing in one place of all the CD masterings!

one of my all time favorite albums.

Okay, here's a list of all of the known CD pressings of Aqualung before the horrible NR'd remaster.

If you have any of these, could you please check 4 things:

    - EAC values
    - Total time
    - How many repeats of the riff before the drums enter on "Aqualung"?
    - Is the last 20 seconds of "Wind Up" missing?

My copy for the most part is well mastered with the exception of Wind Up and while it's orignal waveform has a DR+ rating of 16, multiband compression with the "Pop Master" setting in Adobe Audition brought more sound into it although the DR+ rating is a 10 with the compression compared to the original waveform's DR+ rating of 15. The intro of Locomotive on my copy used some multiband compression to bring a little bit more out of the recording and the DR+ ratings of both the original waveform and my revision of it is 17.

The CD does have lots of hiss, but that's a good thing I have tried hiss reduction on the recordings, and life would have been removed and I didn't save the hiss reduction in the waveforms.

Thanks for the info Brad. How many riffs at the beginning before the drums come in?

  15. As coincidence would have it, today I just happened to run across a 'Japan for USA' Chrysalis pressed CD, with 'DIDX-68 11' stamped in the inner mirror band, and 'CSR' repeating in the clear plastic hub. To top it off, the damn thing looks unplayed, with even the smooth sided frosted jewel case, looking like new.

Anyway, this thing is REALLY quiet. Even when I turn it up to normal listening volume, it just doesn't seem to have any life in it. I don't know, maybe I just need to do several more listens, and see if it grows on me? At this point, I much prefer the U.S. 'DADC' pressing with the last :25 of 'Wind Up' missing. Hiss and all.

So here are the EAC peak levels for the 'Japan for USA' VK 41044 DIDX 68' Chrysalis CD:

  17. I've given this CD several listens tonight, and I've come to the conclusion it's a total TURD!!! This thing sounds really BAD!!!

This 'Japan for USA' pressing of 'Aqualung' is only recommended for the completist, who doesn't have this in their 'Aqualung' collection yet. Any reason other than that, and it's a total waste.

Oops, almost forgot...Just My Humble Opinion of course. :)

I'll be on the lookout for it. I also wonder if my Japan-for-U.S. disc (43:32) has a unique mastering. I'll have to post EAC peak levels when I'm home.
