I know only 4 different masterings of Aqualung on CD prior to the 25th Anniversary remaster:

    1 West German 610016/UK CDP 32 1044 2/Japan for Europe
    2 CCD 1044
    3 Japan CP28-1033
    4 DCC

Which are the remaining 3 different masterings prior to the 25th Anniversary?

Just spent the past few hours listening to the new stereo mix, the quad mix and the 5.1 mix (from the deluxe box version, of course.) It is all absolutely fantastic. Hats off to (Steve) Wilson. :righton:

That would be the Aquadung box.

Then there are the U.S. issues with catalog number VK 41044. There are three different masters with that catalog number. A search should reveal a thread where they were discussed.

Keep the Blu-ray audio coming. Mr. Wilson really took this recording to a different level. My dad is a huge Tull fan. I played the Aqualung blu-ray for him yesterday, and he was really blown away with the quality and depth of the soundstage. He commented that you could actually hear the bass in the recording now.

Can't they just sell the Blu-ray alone and make life easier here?

That subject really needs it's own thread!

Picked up the 2CD version today and I couldn't be happier with the product - Steven Wilson worked some magic on this one, it sounds great.

I have no use for the original stereo mix of Aqualung. This new mix rules.

    A revelation for this LP.

  17. It's amazing to see how much Peter Mew's stellar remixing and remastering work on this project has redeemed his reputation here among the Forum membership...I'm genuinely heartened by this development!!!:edthumbs:

How is the 2CD set packaged, jewel case ?

  20. A fold-out carboard box with jewel case-type trays inside. Convenient and nice. My discs were manufactured in Mexico. They're perfect. The book is included too. Good, sometimes great reading... but very small print!!

  21. What do you guys think of the extra, never before released tracks?

Early "My God" has quite a psychedelic sounding middle section! Some of those studio flute effects, or the way in which they're used, kind of foreshadow "Thick As A Brick"... And of course it includes the verse with the un-PC religious references, previously only heard live in the old shows.

Why they ever arranged "Wind Up" about four keys higher than the released STEREO version will always be a mystery to me... Anderson has never been a singer with a naturally powerful voice... Sounds here like he really wants to bust it 14 years ahead!... I also prefer the "regular" one because of its slower pace. To some people (including my wife), it lags a bit. But as a closer to this special album, IMO it needs to take its time, in order to make its point.

I usually ignore bonus tracks after one listen, but I'm really liking this disc. Wondering Aloud, Again is a new fave. I do agree the version of Wind Up on here sounds strained, but I really like the rest.
