Regarding that poll by prog-sphere....I've never heard the string quartet release, but that and the Christmas release are rated THAT high. Ian's day to release a Christmas collection was probably 1973 or so, but he had other things on his mind at that time.

    Top 3 Tull albums are:

    1) Thick as a Brick
    2) A Passion play
    3) Minstrel in the Gallery

I think their 40th anniversary sets put many other artists to shame when it comes to reissue albums - the whole series has been been executed in such a loving manner - just missing the Thick as a Brick one :(

It's amazing that Tulls best 4 songs from 1976 weren't even on the album :D

I'm looking for a website that lists all Tull song in alphabetical order and on which album they appeared. I have tried myself but can't make any sense of it. Ideally, I want a table that lists all songs and their corresponding album. I'm sure Tull fans have this all sorted ages ago, and so it should be on a fan page somewhere.

  13. Me too. I still remember Ian's quip about the Bruhaha that Metallica and their fans made. I paraphrase "I don't know why they are making such a fuss, we aren't going to give it back". Tull isn't heavy metal, but Ian is quite a bit shaper and wittier than Lars and Hetfield.

Tull was my gateway drug into prog, and Glen Cornick inspired me to pick up the bass, so they'll always hold a special place in my heart.

    Top 3 albums would be
    Aqualung
    Thick as a Brick
    Stand Up

I still like their later stuff, just not as much. Minstrel and Songs from the Wood would be the other standouts.
This thread gave me an excuse to listen to Boureé again, so I'm happy.

True, but it was kind of funny when Metallica finally got their Grammy and James thanked Jethro Tull for not releasing an album that year. (Actually Rock Island may have dropped that year, but, whatevs).

    Songs From The Wood
    Heavy Horses
    Stormwatch

Why Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson traded in his rock star existence for a hidden manor in Wiltshire
Next month marks the 50th anniversary of the rock band Jethro Tull, meaning it is half a century since their frontman and songwriter, Ian Anderson, wearing his trademark hand-me-down overcoat, first took to the stage at London’s Marquee Club.

Anderson steered the band to the top of the charts with their second album, Stand Up, and before long they were international stars, appearing for three consecutive nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden and sharing festival billing with the likes of The Who and Led Zeppelin.

Although Jethro Tull (with some new personnel) still perform around 80 concerts worldwide a year, Anderson’s home is far from a rock star’s party pad; he lives in an 18th-century manor house tucked away in the wilds of Wiltshire.

"He looks back on those years of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll with a laconic cynicism."

    Drugs?

Don't they do any research on the Torygraph?

Wasn't Anderson famously not a drugs user?
