    and then on Friday January 31, the basic studio versions of the following were taped (not a bad day's work, huh!):

    Paul McCartney - lead vocal, acoustic guitar
    George Harrison - lead guitar
    Ringo Starr - drums

    Let It Be (4:03)
    Recorded: January 31, 1969 at Apple Studios, London, England with overdubs added April 30, 1969 and January 4, 1970
    Re-produced and remixed by Phil Spector in March, 1970
    John Lennon - bass guitar, harmony vocal
    Paul McCartney - lead vocal, piano
    George Harrison - lead guitar, harmony vocal
    Ringo Starr - drums
    Session musicians - orchestra (overdubbed by Phil Spector)

    The Long and Winding Road (3:38)
    Recorded: January 31, 1969 at Apple Studios, London, England.
    Re-produced and remixed by Phil Spector on April 1, 1970
    John Lennon - bass guitar
    Paul McCartney - lead vocal, piano

    Yeah, looks like my basement. Except I have fewer musical instruments and no Beatles...
    More proof that he died over two years earlier? :D
     
  3. About the "bass guitar" John is playing on LiT and tL&WR (couple of posts above), what is this instrument exactly? It's not a 4-string ordinary "bass", but a lower tuned 6 strings. Is this tuned like a bass (one ocatve lower than a 6-string guitar)? Ain't this the same instrument Wes Montgomery played occasionnally and that was called a "tenor guitar" (I have never seen it - just saw the reference on record covers).

    I think George Harrison also played the bass part on the same Fender-looking 6-string model on the live Hey Jude.

    Speaking of the rooftop performance, I always wondered why they had another keyboard set up behind George?
