In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was THE song of that summer or fall from what I remember. I want to say that eight tracks in cars were pretty new, and everywhere I went I can remember Camaros blasting this song.

ah yes, 8 tracks...big, bulky and so much fun! nothing like a song being SPLIT between tracks!

...another memory of the 8 track...riding around in our van playing "Aqualung" over and over...such good times back then...

pure genius...how they got away with that?!

I guess everyone was so excited to have their favorite music playing in their car...it didn't matter that much...just the way it was...sometimes when certain songs are playing when I think back to those 8 track days I can still hear the track split!

Man, I really love the first album "Heavy". It has much better songs. Why hasn't this ever been put out on CD? And the mono mix rules!

"Heavy" is on CD...came out in 1991 - ATCO - includes 2 bonus tracks.

I have a Rhino that doesn't have the bonus tracks. It's odd that they'd exclude these on a newer release (1993?)

I have a WLP in mono. I think it is just a fold-down for radio, but it is still a pretty neat item to have.

Sorry, I don't recall. Most probably from Tower or a small shop I use to frequent a lot back then...both in So Cal.

The original Atco vinyl (whether tri-color or yellow label does not matter) - with the hand scribed matrices + AT + LW, etc. I think sound best - or at least have the most 'presence.' There are later AT/GP George Piros pressings which sound very good as well.

You can find this album on RCA and Columbia pressings (see: little stamped matrices) but if you listen to these compared to those thick old Atco's, you should be able to hear they're from a lower tape source. I suspect tapes were made and sent out to other plants to keep up with demand back when this album was outselling pancakes for a while.

Is this the original full length version, edited version, or extended mix?;) ;) ;)

I have the Rhino issue & am quite pleased with it. Would like to hear the MFSL version though.

The Rhino does not have the bonus tracks, the German Atco does have the bonus tracks it was widely imported at the time about 3 years before the Rhino came out.

  25. I found a pristine Made in Germany Atco probably from the early to mid 1970's mastered by George Piros (AT/GP in deadwax) ......

silent vinyl, dynamic and since I have none to compare, would the masterings for the US sound the same?

Anybody have a US and German made to compare?

I have run across tons of these, but always trashed, er, Well Liked...played often!!:D
