My label's a little different...hmm...'Stereo' is in white. And the first song is above the Atco logo.

I have this version and I recommend it. Not only does it sound good to me but it has the live version and single edit of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida as bonus tracks.

I have the issue with the 3D cover (a limited edition that's been around for many years) and I think it sounds great.

I saw IB live in 1968 and they did a 35 minute version of Vida. During the last few minutes of the song they were playing feedback with the amps and making all sorts of FB noise. Then all the lights went out and for another minute or so the amps were all still howling in total darkness. The lights come back on and there is no one on stage, just howling amps and no band. Then some roadie comes out and clicks off each amp one by one and that was the end. Great show!

Huh? I'm still deaf from it I think. :D

Don't mean to hijack or whatever it's called, but when I read "versions" I thought the thread was about covers...

And I wanted to see what people had to say about Richard Cheese or more importantly, the HILARIOUS version in The Simpsons Movie!

I like the 19 minute live version off of Iron Butterfly Live. It's a bit faster paced and sonically better, IMHO.

I've only heard the early Atco of this one, so I can't comment on any other pressing (assuming there are any.)

  11. I've had the MSFL Gold cd for a while and have been very satisfied with it. It's good enough to me that I haven't even started trying to hunt down a better version.

This is one CD where MFSL nailed the mastering. The Atco CD pressings from both the USA and Canada were horrible in comparison.

I love the Bill Inglot CD from 1995 - a real beauty.

I have one of those. Got it at a garage sale in 1979 for 25 cents. The price is written right on the cover.

From Dave's post about the Atcos & your response I gather they're a very distant third to the MFSL & Rhino versions. Hopefully there's not that much distance between the MFSL & Rhino. For those of us that have the Rhino, but not the MFSL could you tell us more? (Dave too, if he's familiar w/the Rhino.)

...well if I didn't have both I'd be satisfied with either the MFSL or The Rhino...they are both perfect in their own way...nothing to lose sleep over.:)

    I got it!:agree: great idea!

...maybe someone else who has both CD's can post samples from each?

Possibly the same as the bonus track on the '95 Rhino (& MFSL?), but I'm no IB scholar. The live version on the Rhino disc sounds good to me... I've never heard the MFSL, but from what I'm reading it's better.

I wonder how many people listen to side one of that album? It's got some great flower-pop songs on it. I really like the first three IB albums, and I usually don't like late '60s heavy rock.

That album is unfortunately poorly recorded. Lots of distortion on the master, indicating the levels were too hot during mixdown.

    Steve,

Is that a true mono 45 or a fold-down? Those are great songs from the 1st Butterfly album "Heavy".

True mono. Remixed at Gold Star, right? Heck, been so long, only Bill Inglot knows for sure anymore. Pretty sure it was Gold Star.
