There are definitely some lesser songs on the White Album. You could tighten it up quite a bit and have a great rock album with a few quieter songs to break up the fury:

    U.S.S.R.
    Dear Prudence
    Gently Weeps
    Warm Gun
    Martha
    So Tired
    I Will
    Julia
    Birthday
    Yer Blues
    Mother Nature
    Monkey
    Helter
    Sadie
    Long Long
    Rev 1
    Cry Baby
    Good Night

Play with the sequencing a little and you'd have one great 56-minute album

I'd like to make a looped version of Wild Honey Pie that lasts 74 minutes.

Or, leave it as it is and you'd have one of the greatest double albums of all time.

A lot of these suggestions for fixing the White Album make me think of the way my dog was "fixed". :)

My solution involves making high bitrate mp3 CDs for listening in my car - and a car CD player that can play them, of course. :)

But it's a risk worth taking--keep it as 2 (incredible) discs and roll the dice!

IMO, the whole idea of an "album" has been made obsolete.

Sure, there is some music that is meant to be played as a set, in an ordered sequence. Maybe 1% of the popular music ever made would fit that category. I certainly wouldn't include the White Album in that.

I often cue up 226 Beatles songs in shuffle mode. I can't say the music suffers any from hearing it this way.

There is no fixing of this classic for me. When compiling CDRs for fun and frolic in the car, I ADD Hey Jude, Revolution, and assorted tracks from the Esher Tapes, Anthology and from boot. I've also compiled a stereo version and a mono version of this set...my goodness :) Ron

really, how do you 'fix' one of the greatest albums ever?
    Its diversity is its strength.
There's no other album of theirs that gets so personal, from each member. It's a brilliant masterpiece.

It just occured to me that we are going in the wrong direction with this thread. This album would be sooooo much better if they found a way to get it onto two double sided discs. Also, if they could up the diameter of the discs to something like 12"...

I know it sounds crazy, but I think it could be a hit in this configuration.

Fixed the White Album, eh? Good job.

Are you handy with a paint brush? I noticed some pretty shoddy work on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel last time I was there.

This fix-it story reminds me of the joke about the guy who sends a blonde woman out to paint the porch. She returns saying, "All done! By the way, it's a Ferrari, not a Porche!"

People are really overreacting to the word "fixed." Fine, it was perhaps not the best word to use, but we know what he meant -- he reconfigured it for his own listening pleasure. So what? He didn't say "Let's burn the master tapes." Threads about a single-LP "White Album" pop up like weeds here every few weeks. Let's forget he used the word "fixed" and enjoy the discussion without mocking the guy.

Oh, and the Sistine Chapel was "fixed" -- more than once. Have to paint over all those naughty bits! Much more offensive to desecrate the actual work of art, don't you think? I imagine the Beatles' legacy will survive white wolf's CDR...

Quite so. I apologize to White Wolf for my bitchery. It was unpleasant and unneccessary.

Could be that was its destiny, the premise was dubious? :D

Yeah, and if they issue a mono mix, too, can you imagine the sales? :D

I know most people have always felt this way about music... it's the SONG, stupid! And there's nothing wrong with that.

I grew up on 45's and loved stacking the right ones up on the changer in the right order - not random - and when I could finally afford LP's I knew I was in my element. Even with bands that are known for their non-LP singles I like to hear a well-sequenced set that clocks-in at about 40-minutes. I often tinker with albums and collections to get them just right on CDR. I'm not averse to hitting random play and sometimes it refreshes my appreciation for the music, but a good LP-length program is perfect for my interest and attention span.

And when a group like The Beatles pull-off a classic double set, all the better.
