I'm asuming you mail ordered this.

Did the flimsy packaging survive intact?

I'm afraid it's brickwalled. Just a guess. Damn shame, too.

Early poster said it sounded fine.

I have this and it sounds fine to me. It does seem to be a bit loud but not brickwalled.
The package survived the shipping just fine and I am glad to have it.

How can you say for sure if you say "just a guess"? You're contradicting yourself! That makes no sense.

Can someone here post some wav pics and EAC levels.

Let me rephrase: I'm afraid that it "may" be brickwalled. Just a guess. It "would" be a damn shame, too.

Maybe I'm just over-cautious concerning the mastering levels of cds, reissues included, of all cds these days. I'd like to get this set if it sounds nice, though - I love RE and haven't heard a lot of these tracks.

    Ok, that makes sense :)

And you can't be too cautious nowadays. Granted, I feel just like you. I have all of this on vinyl and old Motown cd's. I'm sure my needledrops sound better. But if it's decent, I might buy it just because I am a fan. Maybe the sales of this will lead to archival stuff in the future.

Her is a EAC shot of Get Ready the single version for what it is worth.

    Definitely not brickwalled.

has anyone here compared the sound to other releases? Id love to get this set - buts its very expensive and would hate to waste money for something that sounds poor -- I already have Millenium, Very Best Of, Ma, and Anthology...

Looks ok to me too. Sure contradicts what the Amazon reviewer had to say. Can anyone else weigh in on the sound?

Is there a single CD comp on Rare Earth you folks can recommend? I need one. I also need Warm Ride on it if possible.

Seek out the "Greatest His And Rare Classics" cd from 1991...mastered by John Matousek. This one sounds great. This one has the single edit of Warm Ride and it also has some b-sides not available anywhere else.

Or get the 1995 2 disc "Anthology" mastered by Bill Inglot. Well, actually get them both!

If you have trouble finding them, let me know.

I almost took the plunge and picked up this Rare Earth Hip-O set but just couldn't get past the $67 Price tag on it. I seen a copy at an Independent Record store while in Colorado Springs this past Saturday. I haven't seen any more posts here about it in regards to sound quality. I have a few Rare Earth discs to include the Anthology 2 CD set but this has all their best albums minus the In Concert album. I would buy it if I knew there was improvement in sound . If it's no better than the Anthology discs though I really don't think I want to spend the money for it. Anyone have this and think it's worth the price?

Also, is there a compilation that has the studio version of "Hey, Big Brother"?

Yes, most compilations do have the studio version. Hwoever, none of the compilations have the 45 edit!

True, it only showed up after the fact, on a label compilation.

It was released as a promo to rock stations at the time.

The studio version was released only as a single.

There is a version that runs over 4 minutes which is in stereo.

The shorter version is a fold-down into mono, I think. And the intro is VERY different.

Then there's the LIVE version on "In Concert".

I'll try to upload clips of each intro tonight.

    Thanks for the great info!

Wonder if the 45 version will be on one of the Motown Single Collections (?).
