They bumped me up to 2 day air for free, since I complained about the pre-pay deal.

Listening to "High Time" on the bonus disc: SWEEEEEEET!!!!!! :edthumbs:

    Jerry,
It sounds like you have a really cool wife. That's pretty neat!

Thanks! What's really cool is that she's a big music fan. She's turned me onto a lot of music I never would have thought I would like, such as Gerry Rafferty and Gordon Lightfoot. Oh yeah. And some guy named Springsteen.

The box showed up this evening, but it doesn't seem to have the bonus disc. Does it come housed in a package separate from the box? Might have to call the GD store.

    Oh yes, it's #7081.

Way to go! You'll love it. Over 77 minutes and great sound. Can't wait to hunker down in the sound room this weekend....

I didn't pay extra for fast shipping so I imagine next week sometime. It's awfully tempting to sell it though with some of the prices I've seen.

Don't sell it, no matter what the price. This box set is a Dead Head's "wet dream" - keep it (unless of course you bought more than one).

I know, but I already have hundreds of hours of live Dead I'd probably only ever get around to listening once or twice and one went for over $700 yesterday

Sadly I don't have one. At first I objected to cards being charged months before shipping; by the time I got over it and tried to order, it was too late.

So how is the audio quality? How does it compare to the soundboards that had been posted at archive.org until this set was in the works?

    Hi Jerry,
Your wife has turned you on to some great people. And some named Springsteen, eh? :) Here's something both funny and sad to pass on to you. A guy I used to know decided that he didn't want to talk to me anymore because he hates the fact that I like Bruce (he's a huge Bruce/Elvis fan) and The Grateful Dead. Go figure?!
I'm still waiting for my set as well. I'm another one who ordered the standard shipping.

That's sad. True music fans should keep and open mind if possible.

The Dead set looks wonderful! Except the booklet smells funny! Lots of great pictures. I played one cut from the bonus cd and the quality is first rate! I hope to get into the Fillmore run this weekend. I wish I bought two, but then again, I'm glad I've got one!

When you read the book do you suddenly start laughing uncontrollably and get the munchies? :D

I laugh uncontrollably, but that's because Jerry looks so weird with a mustache and no beard, and Weir looks like a pretty boy. :D

Mike, would you say that Dick's Picks 36 is a big, average or small upgrade from the currently available "unofficial" version? Thanks!

Haven't heard much yet to comment. I've been listening to Closing Of Winterland which sounds superb.

Still no Fillmore West Box in today's mail. :shake:

Mine arrived about an hour ago. Sounds great to me. The first set (Disc 1) is a bit uneven, but the band quickly gels. More later.

i have the over-the-counter three disc set--all i really needed--and it smokes. i'd be interested in hearing more, but i'm not the world's biggest dead fan and it might be overkill. i like the distillation by those more in the know. for great late 60's psych-rock, however, you'd be hard-pressed to find better than fillmore west 1969 and live/dead.

P.S. the sound quality is impeccable, per usual, and the booklet and liners are swell, too. great photos!
