    Ed,

Mr. Spizer's books are excellent. I own both volumes of "The Beatles Story on Capitol Records" and the "The Beatles on Apple Records". The books are informative, well written, and have some great pictures as well.

ED, The upcoming AMERICAN RELEASES BOX SET is NOT about sound quality, BRUCE knows it, I know it, you know, we all know it. :)

I'm glad Mr. Spizer is a good/great writer.
    However...
The writer of the history of the atomic bomb, would not automatically become a nuclear physicist.
What detractors are trying to help you understand is his lack of knowledge (he's a North American Beatles historian, after all) of The Boys audio history. In which the Capitol versions of albums are an abominations of the original British LP's.
What's funny is I'm still hoping for a miracle:
    1. Sourced from first generation true mono/stereo tapes.
    2. Mastered as promised.
Then the order/selection will be come secondary to the audio quality. Not the other way around.
Otherwise, there is the distinct possibility this release will sound worse than 1.

    EXACTLY.:D, I'm glad you understand.

Thanks Flatso for sharing this great article to us. Bruce Spitzer made several valid points about why Capitol had decided to release the Beatles the way it did in the 60's.
    Great article! :righton:
To those those who grumble too much about its release (including MF), you better read this article.
    Bravo Capitol! :edthumbs:

    That statement is not true.
    Bruce states;
    .
    And,
Quotes like this are NOT leading people to believe as you say "AMERICAN RELEASES BOX SET is NOT about sound quality, BRUCE knows it, I know it, you know, we all know it".
    Music Direct;
So please stop saying "we all know it".
And please quote the article were Bruce says "AMERICAN RELEASES BOX SET is NOT about sound quality".

But, that being the case...why are there so many threads about this decidedly non-audiophile release on a forum that's run by an audiophile mastering engineeer and (ostensibly, at least) devoted to discussions of sound quality? ;)

BIG ED...Please stop trying to putting a damper on this release...It's coming, you can stop it, many of us want it...embrace the inevitable...Why pick on BRUCE? Geez, he's done nothing but great work...Did you ever see his books? I can't see the point of this constant bitching and moaning...If it's not for you...DON'T BUY IT! For me, November 16th can't come soon enough...Yea, Yea, Yeah! :)

Can someone direct me to a CD review site?
That does/will have a pre-release review of the Cap Box.
    Thanks.

Big Ed and Michael, stop this! You both make good and valid points and don't agree for completely different reasons. All the badgering back and forth will neither change each others minds nor make for a pleasant public image.

I think if you read one of the related articles listed there, you get a fairly balanced outlook of the forthcoming release from opposing viewpoints.

    Commentary: Re-MEAT The Beatles!

The only thing about the article that stands out to me as being a little misleading(probably unintentionally), is when he describes the Capitol process of stereo to mono reductions on the first two US LPs, and then states that this result is the same as Martin's mono mixes and sound just as good. We all know that's not true. It's a very poor way of creating mono, and negates the(albeit minimal) editing/echo-reverb, etc. that Martin did in his mono mixdowns and mastering for "With the Beatles"

I'm looking forward to these discs. As long as they are exactly as advertised, nothing will change that. Roll on mid November.

So true.....according to George...HE was the one that thought of using the backwards part on Rain (John discovered it by accident).

The place to discuss music! Be it your favorite recordings, the mastering work of SH, or anything else related to music, this is the place to be.

Enough with the "this place is for talking about sound quality and restoring and blah blah blah!" It's a MUSIC forum!

I read the article last night. It felt a tad bit too defensive on the behalf of the Capital versions. I suspect that he was/is a very big fan of those old records and is over-compensating in his views. It's almost like someone who is a major Dustin Hoffman fanatic preaching the virtues of 'Istar' to a new generation of film students....

I dont understand what the big deal is about the capitol beatles stuff. If you dont like it, dont buy it. These are the US albums, not the british. It's a completely different experience. So stop comparing them. At least capitol is putting out beatles stuff and introducing new fans to the music. And its all about the music right? I for one will be buying this when it comes out.

I thinbk Bruce did a great job of clarifying matters, but a few of his comments really cracked me up. For example:

"We grew up with and loved these albums. We are grateful they are finally being released on CD. It is unfair to criticize a record company for appropriately responding to fan requests..."

Yes, sir!!! We will like these CDs, sir!!!
