Great to hear from another passionate GG fan!

    (Hope you've got the DVD :) )

Incidentally, it might be an appropriate time to warn members about the disastrous first issue of Free Hand on CD by One Way. Horrible muffled sound. It was eventually replaced but the replacement packaging looks similar from memory. So to be safe, do not buy a used One Way Free Hand CD.

there's plenty of copies of 'In A Glass House' sitting here in the racks for $16 CDN. (that's pretty reasonably cheap. I assume the other titles will follow.)

    I'm highly tempted to give it a shot, however;

a> there's a paper slipcase over the jewel box. underneath that, is the transparency included? did they use a cheaper cover? I know the previous edition looked nice, cover art-wise.

b> is this actually a better master than the previous issue the band authorized? should I perhaps eBay a copy of that instead?

c> is 'Glass House' a reasonable (re)introduction to the band? or should I choose another album?

d> the bonus track is from three years AFTER the LP was issued? that don't make no sense. aren't there any non-anachronistic bonus tracks they could have chosen?

I would say yes, if you already have an ear for progressive rock. It is an excellent album, although a little different from the previous albums which featured vocals and harmonies as well as more brass instruments. In A Glass House may even appeal to jam band fans.

Progressiveears.com has some reviews. Sounds like they might be pretty loud.

Oh yes, I had it in my head to mention but it never made it through to my typing, the first USA CD pressing of Free Hand on the One Way Label (usually dead on!) was made from the incorrect master and sounds like total mud. to be avoided at all costs. The same label however has an excellent issue of the last studio album Civilian that includes a killer bonus track Heroes No More in studio quality, not like the rough cassette version found on the original Road Goes On Forever import CD. Fantastic 2005 photo by the way! ! ! !

Well, I felt lucky today as I got the same In a Glass House remaster for free. Well, that's until I put it in my Cd player. This sounds as glassy as the title. Midrange earbleed abuse. Not compressed or no-noised, but EQ'd to the almost unlistenable level. The treble is not the main offender here - it's the midrange. Those guitars still ring in my ears! STAY AWAY!

    :thumbsdn:
P.S. I can only hope the new remaster is better.

The Road Goes On Forever version of The Power and the Glory is one of the best sounding cd's I've ever come across. Does anybody really appreciate the sound of this cd? Great packaging as well.
By the way, is there a difference betwen the Road Goes On Forever and Terrapin Trucking versions? And which came first and what was the reason for the name change?

I have the 1990 Cema Special Products/One Way Records release of Free Hand from 1990. I always thought this sounded pretty good. Is it worth an upgrade?

I can finally replace my CD copy of The Power & the Glory, which was stolen at a party almost 10 years ago.

A friend told me yesterday that Freehand was a soundtrack to a porn movie :) Is it true?

I haven't listened to it yet, but the packaging for The Power and the Glory is nice. No new essays, but it has all the lyrics and the top corners are rounded like a playing card, just like the vinyl LP.

Word is that all the new DRT issues are very hot. Proceed with caution.

Sounds like the packaging for Glass and Free Hand. Lyrics but nothing beyond that. Would have liked a little more discographical info and stuff like that (but that's OK).
The cover on In a Glass House is cool though.

There was an announcement that they are recalling the _Interview_ discs w/ the missing channel. Those who bought it already were told they could mail it back and receive the corrected copy, signed.

Just to mention that I grabbed "The Missing Piece" on a whim yesterday at Best Buy. I'm not an audiophile but to my ears it sounds fine, and doesn't give me a headache. There seemed to be some room and dynamics intact in the recording, but i haven't analyzed the wave file yet. They could have left off the bonus track, a live track that sounds horrible.

Any other feedback on the remasters?

I recently bought the 35th anniversary remasters of In a Glass House and The Power and the Glory. Re: Glass House - the improvement in sound quality over my Terrapin version is incredible. There is just no comparison, the remaster outperforms in all respects - so smooth and clear and detailed; I can follow the lyrics with much less effort as a result. Very impressive. Too bad they didn't release these as hybrid SACDs - it seems music companies are not sold on the new format.

Very disappointed to read that the first four GG discs (my favourites) will not be released in this series (apparently DRT Entertainment does not have the rights to those albums). Wish they could work something out and acquire the rights (and the taste!).
