Listening to 'Transylvania Boogie' from the 'new' Chunga's Revenge. The difference is absolutely stunning. What an improvement!

It indicates they feel this should be treated as a work of musical theater which is entitled to greater copyright protection than individual songs are. Individual songs can be covered by anyone willing to pay a government-set royalty. Works with "grand rights" can only be covered in their entirety with the permission of the copyright holder. This is the legal theory Gail has been using to prevent unauthorized performances of things like Joe's Garage.

I'm still holding out hope they'll issue multi-channel SACD hybrids for ONS, A(') and 'Roxy' - give us the stereo and quad mixes.

UMe are big supporters of SACD, right?

    Right?

    right?

The Quad mixes will come out at some point, but they may be DVD-A. The ZFT has yet to release an SACD.

BTW, has anyone compared the Absolutely Free CD to the Mothermania Hi-Rez files?

I did, briefly. CAV sounded similar.

I have faith in Doug Sax and Bernie Grundman masterings but can anyone verify there is no dynamic range reduction on the Ludwig masterings? Can someone post a dr comparison between the Ryko's and the new discs?

    Where are those?

Brickwall Bob strikes again! The new discs are as flat as a pancake that has been expertly molded to be flat.

    ..

I lie. At least with regard to Weeny, which looks and sounds fine. As my religion prohibits me from even considering the use of DR-measuring tools, though, someone else will have to fulfill the urge for meter-reading.

One minor Chunga's flub, the "Nancy & Mary Music" venue and engineer credit has been left off.

IIRC, download only through the Frank/Gail website.

  13. That's too bad, because I LOVE this recording!

I haven't listened to it yet, but FYI here is a screenshot of 'Transylvania Boogie' from the Ryko [RCD-10511; top] and Zappa [ZR-3844; bottom]. Click for high-res.

FYI, both receive a DR9 rating via TT DR Meter.

In your opinion, are the analoge sourced remasters still must buys if original vinyl copies are secured in near-mint condition?
    And if so, which ones?

  16. If you have a >>REALLY<< near-mint copy of the original vinyl "Burnt Weeny Sandwich", you are a luckier man than me!

  17. Many thanks for posting this! Looks very encouraging to me!

And thanks to everyone for their early input into this!

It reminded me of the original Bizarre/Reprise vinyl LP, which ain't a bad thing. Very clean and full sounding. It sounded just right to me, and I love CHUNGA'S REVENGE a lot.

My Burnt Weenie Sandwich and Absolutely Free are on their way to CT from OH by way of MI. WTF? Best Buy uses that UPS/USPS mail innovations service which sends it all over the continent before it lands in the proper state. Dumb.

    Welcome! :righton:

Haven't listened (more important than DR and scientific graphs...) to CR yet, but yesterday I listened to BWS and WRMF and am encouraged by Ludwig's mastering for them.

In that case, I would only consider Absolutely Free as a must buy. If you have near mint Bizarre LPs and the means to play them, then Hot Rats through JABFLA would be redundant for you.

Most current fans aren't as fortunate.

LUMPY GRAVY sounds good to me, but I don't own the '95 Ryko CD, only the original late-'80s Ryko CD and an old import Verve LP.
