I limited it to one favorite album by five different artists.

Hasten down the Wind - Linda Ronstadt
Court and Spark - Joni Mitchell
Boys in the Trees - Carly Simon
    Solitude Standing - Suzanne Vega
New York Tendaberry - Laura Nyro

I'm sure I'll realize I forgot one just as soon as the Edit button disappears.

Bold choice -- I couldn't really choose a favorite from among "Litanies" and the "Masque" trilogy. She is incredible.

ooopss. my bad...puched the wrong button... but great lists guys...

    Females rule..

back in the day (1990s) I used to go into the station and grab all the new female released (back in the Lilith Faire craze) and just play a random track off each for an hour, discovered some great female artist and albums then, many of whom only got one or two cd out before the boom busted... the last two on my list were some of the best of that sorts... awesome music, highly recommended, but very obscure and hard to find...:righton:

    chers,

Thanks  - it still sounds as fresh as on day one and still exceeds all my expectations after 27 years.

Will check out Sam Philips and Norma Winstone - new names for me :)

Wow, Joni in general but Hejira in particular is gathering a lot of love. Blue, Court and Spark, and The Hissing of Summer Lawns are obvious for me but even more obvious right now is I should check out Hejira.

So, you've never heard "Song for Sharon" or "Amelia"? If not, prepare to have your mind blown. Hejira has the best set of lyrics of any album I've ever heard.

No, I guess I have heard the album but just never gotten into it. Sometimes it takes a while to discover or re-discover things. I will probably pick up a copy tonight.

I'm biased, but it's been my #1 favourite album for many, many years. IMO, it was the pinnacle of a 5-album purple patch to rival any in popular music.

IMO, Blue, For The Roses, Court and Spark, The Hissing Of Summer Lawns, and Hejira is THE best 5-album stretch in pop/rock history.

    Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Aimee Mann - I'm With Stupid
Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark
Linda Ronstadt - Heart Like a Wheel
    Suzanne Vega - Solitude Standing

The short list of artist's whose new CDs I will buy blind is entirely women. (and King Crimson since I suppose a live CD will come of their tour.)

    1. Joni Mitchell--COURT AND SPARK
    2. Aimee Mann--LOST IN SPACE (if I wanted to name two by the same artist, I could easily go with BACHELOR NO. 2 in this top five--but I don't)
    3. k.d lang--INGENUE
    4. Mary Chapin Carpenter--COME ON COME ON
    5. Carole King--TAPESTRY

I feel like I'm forgetting something.

    Amazing that

Not one person mentioned Eva Cassidy's "Songbird" album. Not sure how anyone could listen to her rendition of "Somewhere over the rainbow" or "Fields of Gold" and not be an instant fan.
I'd also add Mindy Smith's first album, which is very good.

axeugene It don't matter if yer by my side, I'm satisfied

I hadn't thought of my whole list yet, but those were the only two ones I was sure of!

    Also:
    Kathleen Edwards: Back To Me
    Enya: Watermark
    Martha Wainright: Martha Wainright

It just occurred to me that I definitely like my female artists Canadian.

    5. Patty Griffin - Impossible Dream
    6. Cassandra Wilson - New Moon Daughter
