Exile and Harvest but I hit the Exile button.

  4. The Rolling Stones got my vote, but Neil's album is roughly on par with theirs. "Exile On Main St." & "Sticky Fingers" are my two fave Stones albums, and while I adore "Harvest", it's not one of my top 3-5 Neil albums...but it's way up there & brilliant.

    Level I:
Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St.
    Neil Young - Harvest

    Level II:
    Curtis Mayfield - Superfly
Cat Stevens - Catch Bull At Four

    Level III:
    Carole King - Music
    Don McLean - American Pie
    Elton John - Honky Chateau

    Leve IV:
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
    Moody Blues - Seventh Sojourn

    Level V:
    America - America
    Roberta Flack - First Take
    Chicago - Chicago V

Honky Chateau and Exile On Main St. are favorites of mine and too close to call for finishing second, but I got to vote for Curtis Mayfield's Superfly as it is one of those albums that never leaves my head too long.

    * Every track on his landmark album is amazing, from the liltingly sad boogie-down of "Freddie's Dead" to the bruised but hopeful "No Thing On Me."

    * The production is stellar and varied, finding a kind of mellow middleground between funk and soul.

    * The basslines are amazingly propulsive and being sampled to this day.

    * It's a soundtrack album that works even better as a concept album if you haven't seen the film.

That would have been my vote as well. Machine Head was a #1 album in most countries except the U.S.A..

Since Machine Head didn't make #1, I must go Exile.

Tough list, could have picked half a dozen: Elton, Tull, Chicago....
Never really been much of an Exile fan though

    Voted for Harvest

'Thick As A Brick', of course.

But 'Exile' comes in a respectable second.

For me it was a tie for Exile and Thick as a Brick. I know Exile will get more votes so I went with Tull for some support

Exile, but would've picked Machine Head if it were included.

It's amazing how the US charts differed from the UK - like 2 different worlds. Here's my fave UK #1 from '72 (just slightly above "BOLAN BOOGIE").

Better than most on the list is PInk Moon by Nick Drake

Also, I wish that the Garden Party album by Rick Nelson were a bigger hit than it was. This is a tough poll to vote on as so many of them are great albums.
