I couldn't pick just one from the "1970" thread - "Bridge Over Troubled Water" vs. "Abbey Road"? Both perfect. And also "McCartney".

But these were the only #1s from 1971? None fantastic. Was listening to "All Things Must Pass" two days ago. Good but not amazing. "Imagine" - good, not amazing.

"Sticky Fingers" I picked. Great. But it's not the best from 1971. It just reached #1 is all.

Pleased they went with the Warhol version.

1970 is a better year, the crowning acheivment of that decade..followed with 1971. :agree:

Ram went to number 1 in the UK and a few other countries,

  7. All Things Must Pass among these albums, but really . . . '71-'72 was all about the great prog rock records. The public hadn't caught up yet, which was their loss.

Tapestry and Santana III are also classics. I don't think much of Imagine and several others here. The Sly Stone album is a bit of a fun, claustrophobic listen. But I think the drug rot was already setting in, and quite a bit of that record is poorer for it.

Sticky Fingers is a classic, but I don't really care for the Stones' rhythm section (way too stiff) so none of their albums really hit the sweet spot for me.

Jimi's first postumous album - The Cry of Love. It wasn't number one, but close I think.

Sticky Fingers narrowly takes it over All Things Must Pass.

It's All Things Must Pass for me. I bought the two-cassette edition in the mid-'80s, and I was floored. I still love the album. I didn't expect so many votes for it, though, especially against Tapestry, Sticky Fingers and Every Picture Tells a Story. Wasn't Tapestry ultimately the top seller of the bunch?

It's a toss-up between 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Riot...'. I'll give the Stones the nod this week, for 'Moonlight Mile'.

Sticky Fingers. One of the greatest albums ever...from any year.
Some stellar albums on that list too.

    Sticky Fingers, by a mile.

That it should be even losing this poll as I type is a travesty.

Don't think I've heard Jesus Christ Superstar in its entirety since I was a kid BTW...

Every Picture Tells A Story - probably at least in the top 5 albums of all time for me. Rod's magnificent voice, excellent songwriting, great choice and interpretation of covers (Stewart is one of the best Dylan interpreters IMO) and tremendous playing by Ron Wood, Micky Waller and many others seal the deal.

Edit: I am kind of surprised Who's Next isn't in this poll!

The Stones. ATMP was close, but the second rate jams did it for me.

    Ah, I see. Thanks.

What a loser of an album! :D

  21. Tough call, gave my vote to Sticky Fingers, but on another day it could have been any of the below:

George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
    Janis Joplin - Pearl
    Carole King - Tapestry
Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story
    John Lennon - Imagine
    Isaac Hayes - Shaft

Sly, Carole King, Santana III and Isaac Hayes. Pretty much in that order. Sorry but I have never been much or a Rolling Stones fan.
