One of my favorites is George Harrison playing acoustic, helping with backup vocals, and even doing a bit of uncredited co-writing on "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty.

 

Beck did it to begin with, but they wiped his parts and brought in Alan Parker to play on it.

 

Mick Jagger played guitar on Leslie West's song "High Roller" from the album "The Great Fatsby."

 

And it is such a shame that so few Americans have heard the song. An absolute classic.

Rick Wakeman plays (uncredited) piano on Cat Stevens' single "Morning Has Broken".

Joe Walsh plays guitars on the Carl Palmer track "L.A. Nights" on ELP's album "Works, Volume 1".

 

Steve Howe is credited with guitar on Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Welcome to the PLeasuredome," but according to Peter Banks, he and Trevor Rabin were also in the various ghost bands on that album. That would make it the only album to include all three Yes guitarists!

 

Has anyone mentioned Elton John playing on Alice in Chains song "Black Gives Way to Blue" yet?

Nobody's mentioned Mick Jagger singing on "You're So Vain" yet. That may or may not be "under the radar" but it's definitely one of those things; you might not be able to hear it immediately, but once you do, you can't unhear it!
