I wish Fender would put out a decent (Made in USA) Esquire reissue. I guess there's not enough demand for it?

See my avatar? My bass is a 1972 Rickenbacker 4001 that used to belong to Tommy Stinson and was used in The Replacements for a while, around the 1985 period. He plays it on Saturday Night Live when they did "Kiss Me On the Bus" and "Bastards of the Young".

I think the Made in Mexico Fenders are fine guitars, but if you're set on getting a Made in USA Esquire, the Fender Custom Shop will gladly fill your needs for a mere $3500 :sigh:

Or you could get a 52 RI Tele (or similar guitar), remove the neck pickup, replace the pick guard, and rewire it to Esquire wiring: http://www.tdpri.com/wiringESQUIRE.htm

Here's Ian Anderson in the early 70s playing his gorgeous Martin Martin 0-16NY.

I was working with Zoot Horn Rollo (Captain Beefheart guitarist) on his last album. He knows Ian and was telling me about this amazing collection of antique Martin guitars that Anderson has.

Here's Ian talking about those guitars.........
"The guitar with which I am most associated, especially in the seventies, was the US produced Martin 0-16NY, a small bodied so-called "parlour" guitar which I first found in a shop (would you believe it?) in Tokyo during our first visit in 1972. I still own three of these guitars, although they have been reworked with slimmer contoured necks and new bridge pieces to improve intonation....... I also have about twenty classic Martins dating from 1834 to the late 1930's. These are all wall-hangers rather than players but they have featured on some recordings, notably "Too Old To R & R" and other tracks from that period where I used 0-42 and 0-45 models."

WOW, you can't get much older than an 1834 Martin (since as they helpfully remind you on the headstock of their guitars, they were Est. 1833). One of the really cool things about the Martin guitar company is not only have they been around since Andrew Jackson was president, they've been family run for almost that entire time. That's one of the reasons I like Martin, besides of course the quality of their guitars :)

My dream guitar is still a late 50s Les Paul Goldtop with a Bigsby tailpiece... :(

NO WAY IN HELL I could ever explain that to the wife.

    Next would be the ES-335...

Someone smarter than me said that if he could find one he could afford, he wouldn't want to play it.

BUT I still want my Rick 360, which is in the realm of affordability!
