Thanks for the review. My Mofi will be delivered tomorrow. Last week I listened to my UK Porky LP (hadn't listened to it in a few years) and while it appears very clean it has quite a bit of surface noise, and as your review indicates some of it sounds rather muddy. Should be an interesting comparison.

It would appear they retained Barney Bubbles checkerboard patch on the right side of the cover (something that was corrected in the Universal reissues).

My experience as well, but it does sound good when I crank it up. I'll compare to my UK Porky cut this weekend.

These comparisons are soooo system dependent but after listening to the Mofi and the UK Porky the UK sounds much better to my ears. Hopefully 'TYM' and 'Armed Forces' will be cut somewhat louder. My UK copies of those two sound great, and will be hard to match IMHO.

Is the volume your biggest issue with the Mofi, or is there something else about the sound that makes the Porky better to your ears?

The Mofi lacks the 'punch' of the Porky cut, but still sounds very good. And the vinyl is silent. Of course, other listeners' systems may provide different results.

Very nice sounding record. I also noticed the low volume and quiet vinyl. Thick, heavy jacket with lyrics printed on the inside of it.

Yes, the jacket is very good quality. I listened to this again and it really sounds great (when cranked up). I'll definitely get TYM and AF when they're available, although I do have great sounding UK copies of those as well.

I wonder if Mofi will do Get Happy as well? The UK pressing of that one really sounds fab.

No Kidding! The live performances of the MAIT tracks with the Attractions from '78 are sizzling!

This is one of the first MOFI from the current releases that I'm not thrilled with. The MOFI sounds a bit clouded and lacks some of the dynamics of the original UK pressing. However most of the original UK's have noisy surfaces.

Any comparisons to the FIEND CD?

Over the years I've found that lower cut high dynamic mastered LPs sound much better on better systems that can portray the dynamics properly and less lively on less expensive systems that cannot take advance of the dynamics. I've noticed this as I've upgraded over the years. I have found many of the recent mofi have been cut fairly low but they sound amazing on the right system where cranking things up isn't an issue.
