On the otherhand the upcoming King Crimson Live in Argentina two disc DVD set will have video, pcm stereo, dts quad *and* 4.0 mlp lossless audio as a separate layer all on the same disc.

    A first apparently.

Only dvd-audio players will 'see' the layer containing the 4.0 mlp lossless audio.

This is a really interesting approach they're taking with these alternate 'fantasy versions', particularly since these are the ones that get the 5.1 mix. Is that because some of the original masters are missing? Of course, everybody complains that the second side of Tarkus isn't as good as the first, so maybe this will help rectify that. I'm looking forward to checking these out. (Correction: I see Tarkus in 5.1 features the original side 2, plus the bonus tracks.)

Do we know for sure that these are actually DVD-A? I didn't think too many people were still using that particular format.

Thanks very much for posting. I was concerned we wouldn't be getting a hi resolution disc with these releases.

Is there an official source for this information? I hope they are really DVD-Audio discs however it would not be the first time that "audio-only" DVDs ended up being called "DVD-Audio" by clueless PR people.

Well, there is one person on this forum who can confirm if these reissues are DVD-Audio, and not just DVD-Video. Steven, where are you?! :goodie:

Them's a lot of Lucky Men! Sounds like we may get to hear an alternate stab (or two?) at the Moog solo.

Thanks for the update, tarkusnj. I'll be getting them for sure.

These will be my first ELP CD's (apart from the Atlantic years comp).

Thanks to tarkusnj for the fantastic news and nod to a 'reliable source'!

Well, not necessarily. Doing the mixes and handing them in does not determine the format they get released in. The tapes and/or files would be given to someone that authors the disc(s) and that's where the format will be determined.

Given that these are being released by Sony (at least in the UK and I think other markets outside of the USA?) I'd be *very* (pleasantly for sure) surprised if they were DVD-A and not just audio DVD-V. Sony was never a supporter of DVD-A and I can't see them starting now.

Audio DVD-V get called DVD-A so often - I suspect that is what is happening here, but again I'd love to be wrong.

It seems to be RazorandTie that is in charge here which is why will be DVD-Audio format. I don't know what else I can say other than I spoke with a gentleman in the UK today who is involved with the marketing and confirmed, over the phone, that it is indeed DVD-Audio.

There is no news on when these will be released in the US same as the upcoming Keith Emerson Band album due to be released In July as well. Keith is looking for a label and distributor for his album here in the US. If his album is not released by July from the UK, it will be put off until the fall as the UK does not like to release albums in January (because consumers are spent after Christmas) and also in August as people are broke after being on "holiday".

Yup, I am posting the same thing on both forums in case anyone is on only one or the other.
    Here is another:

Here's the only catch about the gentleman confirming that the format is DVD-Audio. We all know MANY or MOST people have no idea what DVD-Audio is...they mostly think it is just a DVD with audio!
So I just hope this guy knew what he was talking about. But then again, the track listing clearly states "[DVD-A - 5.1 Mixes]". And as far as the rest of the early catalog being remastered, he said if the sales are good, the other albums will follow. But we have see before that these projects get abandoned after a tease or two.

Unfortunately this seems to directly contradict information from Steven Wilson just posted today. Bummer.
