Just as an afterthought, would anybody happen to know who would be doing the remastering for the Razor & Tie reissues? BTW, I will be in for the 5.1's of S/T, Trilogy, Brain Salad Surgery for certain. I'm not sure yet about Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends.
For the Razor & Tie CD editions, I would need to know who was doing the mastering and what kind of further write-up they get (if any) before considering taking the plunge. Even if I get them, I will be keeping my Shout! Factory reissues.

Dreaming of Steven Wilson as remixing engineer and Vic Anesini as mastering engineer. Then we would get the mixes as SW did them, without compression.
Could a WBMFTTSTNE dream possibly come true?

Legendary Prog Rockers Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Razor & Tie Announce Exclusive New Catalog Partner
    February 21, 2012
LEGENDARY PROG ROCKERS EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER (ELP) AND RAZOR & TIE ANNOUNCE EXCLUSIVE NEW CATALOG PARTNERSHIP FOR NORTH AMERICA

Greatest Hits Compilation The Best Of Emerson Lake & Palmer: Come & See The Show Available Now

(New York, NY) - Razor & Tie has signed Emerson, Lake & Palmer to an exclusive new multi-year, multi-rights licensing deal for North America. Razor & Tie will re-issue ELP's prestigious back catalogue with the first release, The Best Of Emerson Lake & Palmer: Come & See The Show available now for purchase on iTunes and in traditional retail outlets. The best of, 14-track compilation includes some of the band's most beloved compositions including "Lucky Man," "From The Beginning," "I Believe In Father Christmas," and the full 9-minute version of the classic, "Fanfare For The Common Man."

A full catalogue re-issue campaign will kick off later this year with the release of newly expanded, re-mastered, editions of the band's first six albums: Emerson, Lake and Palmer (1970- Studio Album), Tarkus (1971- Studio Album), Pictures At An Art Exhibition (1971- Live Album), Trilogy (1972- Studio Album), Brain Salad Surgery (1973- Studio Album), and Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Ladies & Gentlemen (1974- Live Album).

Razor & Tie will actively seek licensing opportunities for the catalog and set up a new direct to consumer store which will feature an array of newly created limited-edition items.

"As Emerson, Lake & Palmer remain unique in their categories, it's only fitting that they are now with a record company with a unique name like 'Razor & Tie'," explains Keith Emerson. He continues "Don't question anything as the music speaks for itself and 'Razor & Tie' yells volumes on ELP's behalf." Carl Palmer offers, "The time was right to make this move. It's a great, enthusiastic music company." Greg Lake also enthuses, "We are looking forward to a long and productive relationship together."

Razor & Tie co-owner Cliff Chenfeld adds, "We are very excited and honored to distribute and represent the Emerson Lake and Palmer catalog. ELP helped create prog rock and we will use this opportunity to bring ELP's amazing body of work to an even broader audience and to finally understand what the Tarkus album cover means."

Considered by many to be one of rock's original first super-groups, Emerson Lake & Palmer formed in England in 1970 consisting of Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (bass guitar, vocals, guitar) and Carl Palmer (drums, percussion). The band created a brand new world of music, combining classical and symphonic rock fused with beautiful vocals. Their penchant for appropriating themes from classical music and the group's more nuanced, textured approach to symphonic arrangements set ELP apart from their more bombastic guitar-based contemporaries of the time. This subtler and more sublime approach carries on today in the expansive atmospherics of Radiohead and Muse and also in the prog-influenced sphere of band's like Porcupine Tree, Dream Theatre, Opeth and many others, making ELP one of the more relevant torchbearers of the progressive rock sound. Along with Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer ushered in the Prog era and as one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1970's having sold over 40 million albums. ELP's dramatic flair, sincere passion, labyrinthine song structures, and symphony-worthy virtuosity proved that classical rockers could compete for arena-scale audiences as the band headlined stadium tours around the world.

Well, I witnessed ELP's greatness firsthand in February 1974. In quadraphonic sound, and all.
I'm certainly curious of what might come of this new venture. Like many however, I began to lose interest in ELP after, "Welcome Back...." (triple LP set). But, I've always been a big fan, and read the books, etc,,,. And, I do own everything they have released. But, anymore I don't listen to much past BSS.
I have been enjoying spinning my ELP vinyl, again! :)

  8. It was down to video content, which involves separate permission. I'm glad they are waiting. If there's any decent video with Jamie Muir to be had, this would be the place to put it.

I wonder if they have video for the rest of that performance. I love watching these guys improvise and play off of each other.

Wow, I'm not a big fan of ELP, but I'd buy each and every album if they are remixed by Steven!

Alright, Steven. We know the truth now (thanks to Mr. Fripp)
    http://www.dgmlive.com/diaries.htm?artist=&show=&member=3&entry=21289

Now Fripp's diary only mentioned you remixing the first two albums (ELP & Tarkus). Can you at least confirm that you have (or will) remix Trilogy too?
(Also I wouldn't mind a BSS remix, even though a 5.1 mix already exists for that one)

Looks like the first two albums will be reissued in the UK on July 16! Amazon's listing 3 discs per album, so I'm guessing Disc 1 is remastered album, Disc 2 is bonus tracks, and Disc 3 is 5.1 DVD(-Audio). OR other scenario, Disc 1 is Remastered album with bonus tracks, Disc 2 is 5.1 DVD(-Audio), and Disc 3 is 5.1 Blu-Ray disc. We shall see...

Just ordered 2 of the ELP sets and Amazon UK gave me around 20% off the total (not that they weren't already cheap to start with) with shipping to the US at only GBP 4.07 (which is less than a lot of ebayUK sellers charge to mail a single disc).

I'd like to have visuals as well, just like Genesis boxes (yes, at least Genesis were really good at that) :agree:

1: CD with original mix in most recent remastered form / 2: CD with new stereo mix of the album and unreleased pieces and alternate takes found on the tapes / 3: DVD with 5.1 mix and all the stereo material.

Blu-rays are unfortunately still incredibly expensive to author and manufacture - to include a BR with these sets I think you would be looking at at least double these prices, which naturally makes the record companies a bit cagey, especially with the currency of multiple disc box sets of classic albums having fallen so much over the last couple of years.
