Not "they", according to producer Terry Manning was purely the record label rushing to get the CDs out and circumventing the band's approval...

Wow! It's sh** like this that causes bands to say "screw it" and withold anything else from being remastered/reissued if they have it in their contract to do so!

Well, the liner notes to the six-pack sure seemed to trumpet the fact that they loved the new sound...

Best sounding ZZ Top on vinyl imo is the "RL" cut of Deguello.

Never was into ZZ Top way back. I mean, why go and see a Texas boogie rock trio in an arena(come to think of it, I still feel that way) I finally did get to see them in a nice mid-sized hall here in Denver a few years back and realized what I had been missing. I had been warned away from most of the "remixed" cds by a friend, so I started looking for vinyl. Was lucky enough to find a dirty, but quiet "Tres Hombres" on London which after cleaning sounds great so I can share your joy MYKE!

Oddly, I have more ZZ Top shows on tape or dvd than I do lps or cds...

Yeah it is. And unless you go vinyl or get the box set, you lose about a full minute of that song on the remixed CD's.

    Is that all it said...?

(I got rid of the six-pack..)

Listening to an unbelievably clean, quiet First Album, thanks to Geoman's sale...whew.

  16. That's a nice lp, Myke. I noticed it during Georges sale and am happy to hear: A/ it went to an appreciative home and B/ was as clean as George stated. Which is usually the case with him! I have all the early London ZZ's and consider the first 4 essential. Enjoy!

This is one reason why most all of my music these days is from Vinyl sources. Good vinyl makes me want to hear more vinyl! Early ZZ Top was made for vinyl and those old Londons in minty shape make all else sound neutered. Except for those few SH/KG Mastered WB Reissues.

The re-issue LPs on Warner Brothers can sound better than the Londons because the vinyl isn't noisy.

Yes, but I do like the Ludwig remasters of Fandango and Tres Hombres on CD.

  20. There's also a little more top end and slightly tighter bass when I compare my rti/KG cut Tres Hombres to my London but given the original is almost 40 years old, it kicks a$$ and takes names!its quite simply a marvel of not so modern Science that it can sound that good.

While you're at it tell him to try playing a different song in concert from the same 18 they've played for 40 years.

  24. This is probably been mentioned in the Audio Fidelity threads, but it seems that the early ZZ Top CD that haven't been remastered and issued (Tres Hombres and Fandango) would be great candidates for AF discs by Steve.

I'm guessing rights issues with WB/WEA and/or band mgmt.
