Looking forward to this one. I found a used original London pressing a few months ago, but it's pretty beat.

Well, I haven't compared 'Tres Hombres,' but I have compared 'Fandango!' This may be heresy, but I prefer the WB of that.

I have a Japan London Fandango that is awesome. Steve did a great job on the Tres Hombres (imo). I still keep my original though. :righton:

Yep. No MTV, no fuzzy guitars, no 'li'l ol' band from Texas' crap, no remixes, no reverbed snare, nothing. Just honest Les Paul Texas blues with hint of snarl.

Very well put. I do enjoy bragging that I saw them when Billy was clean-shaven. :agree:

Probably depends on which 'original' Fandango pressing you heard. 'Originals' were mastered at Sterling Sound and cut by Robert Ludwig, the later 70's Warner label cuts sound like they were made from a higher generation copy tape and are EQ'd a bit to overcome the resolution difference. Fandango sold well enough that I've found copies pressed (no doubt under contract) by Columbia Records which would also have used a copy I think. Not saying the W/B's sound bad (they do sound good) - just pointing out that the SS/RL marked original pressings stand a head above the others IMHO.

You got that right. When they started using synths, and doing videos ect...
they sold out, and started to get cheesy. Tejas was the last great album they did (imo).

James, it appears I owe you an even bigger thanks than I left in your feedback (hope you read ALL of it... ) but you sold me a very CLEAN, QUIET copy, and that I have learned is not easy to come by ?? So...another thank you my Friend.

Well, since they've already been remastered, that shouldn't be hard.

But be sure to mention the Moving Sidewalks album too - that begs for a legit release - the stuff on the Chrome, Smoke box set sounded miles above the needle drops and boots out there...:righton:

Oh nice !!!! :righton: YOU are the man !!!

  14. MCD,

Agree with Raunchnroll, I personally find the old RL pressing of Fandango does sound better than the WB but if you're referring to the later WB (I think it's a DM) cut of this, the dm's will tend to play quieter as far as surface noise is concerned. Unless you have a nice clean London..

I certainly enjoy Tres Hombres and Fandango as well, but their schtick started even as far back as those. There's just something so honest about the first two albums. Unadulterated, un-messed-with music; let's plug-in, let's play.

Yep, it was the Sterling cut by Bob Ludwig. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the WB beats it. To my ears, on my system.

Vinyl is the only way also for "Tejas"...a highly underrated album imo.

Vinyl only for all my ZZ Top albums from their debut until Afterburner, 1980s WB UK reissues for the early ones. Recycler is the only ZZ Top CD that I own.

I'm not that familiar with ZZ Top on (vinyl or cd) but I'm curious in regards to the mentioned "remixes" Was there ever an explanation by anyone as to WHY they were remixed (stupidness, laziness, some other technical reason)?

I was done cuz Eliminator and Afterburner were their biggest-selling albums ever.

They thought that formula could be retro-fitted to the older albums...

    Huge blunder...
